Hi the first thing you need to check is if that sim card was working in the phone before if it was then ill discuss further at the end of this, if how ever it is not the original sim card then if this sim card has not been used for 180 days then the sim card gets cancelled and your phone wont pick it up, also you need to make sure the sim card you are using is for the network the phone is locked to.
Ok if the sim card is good and is working and its the correct one for your phone then this could mean one of a couple of things. try the following.
1. try the sim card in another phone to ensure it is still working and not been damged.
2. try another sim card in the phone this way you will know if its the phone with the problem or the sim card3
3. if its the phone with the problem then remove the sim card and check all the connection the sim card touch on the phone are clean and free from corrosion, press all the connections down with your finger to ensure they are all springy still.
4. if your sure the sim card works then you can try putting a small piece of paper on the back of the sim card so that when you put the sim card in the phone the extra piece of paper pushes the sim card down onto the contacts further as this does ware and you lose the connection.
if you can you can build up some tape on the back of the sim just to build it up slightly so it pushes is donw harder onto the contacts.
if after doing that it still dont work then the problem you have is going to be with the sim card reader on the phone. if this is the case then this part will need replacing and then this will solve your problem.
The cheapest place to get this done is one of those small phone shops that are not part of a big chain these need your custom and will offer you the cheapest prices for the repair.
Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
No problem as it is the original sim card and you know it was working then try removing the sim card and give the sim card a wipe to remove any static that may have built up then refit if it still dont work the n the problem is going to either be the sim card reader on the phone or it could even be that the firmware on the phone has failed and may need reinstalling, how ever to get this dont it would mean a trip to a phone shop to have them test it for you to tell you the fault.
But you need to take into account that the cost of repair could be more than the cost of replacing the phone, the problem with phones is their are newer versions coming out every couple of months so they soon become old and unwanted so it may be time for a new phone as the cost would more than likely be more than the phone itself, but if it is only the firmware then this would cost next to nothing to update but buying parts would cost more than the phone.
Im sorry i cant give you no easy fix but its just one of those problems that either needs a software update or parts replacing and neither of these you would be able to do without correct equipment.
Thanks for using fixya

I have never removed the sim card so I'm not sure why all of a sudden I'm getting this message. I guess the phone is getting old and the connections are loosening. Thanks for your help.
