I've similar question. My ipod touch 2 screen is very finicky! It sometime responds just fine, but other times requires multiple taps before it does it's duty. Is there a fix for this? I have tried soft resets and recalibrating. The recalibration works fine, but I don't think it should have to be done daily which is about what I'm doing now. Is there another more permanent fix for this problem?

Seems the X/Y axis is misaligned from the device being dropped or excessive pressure applied to the touch area. Recalibration won't work because there is a physical condition Vs mechanical or other issues. Touch screen replacement may be the only option.

Try recalibrating the touch feature. Touch screen devices need to be recalibrated ever so often. The more it is used, the more often recalibration should be done. I recalibrate my LG VU once a week. Hope this helps.
i think you should either get a new ds or tap the touch screen hard. if tapping the touch sreen harder does not work then that means it is time for a new ds.
This doesn't fix Sitfar's problem, but for those how might find this helpful from Garmin's site:
