Kenmore upright freezer, about 16 cu ft. Buildup

Kenmore upright freezer, about 16 cu ft. Buildup of ice crystals around door and panels adjacent to door, now with solid ice in places, and on contents in door racks...? gasket seems to be flush with body when shut. Crystals are not just at the bottom, but top and sides mainly.

Symptoms you are describing are faulty door seals, try putting a thin piece of paper between door and frame to make sure doors are sealing, also when did you do a full manual defrost??(once a year even with auto defrost)

Upright freezer shuts off and leaks when there is any kind of ice buildup. has done this twice in 7 months. is this normal or is it on its way out?

I suggest checking the defrost circuit. Make sure the drain in the back of the freezer is clear first. Then check the defrost timer, switch, and heating element using a volt meter. You can download a schematic from the Sears/Kenmore website.

Groaning Kenmore 13.5 cu. ft. Upright Freezer

This sounds like you either have a bad fan motor or if you have ice built up on the inside back panel. It could be that the fan blades are hitting ice built up around it. If so, you will have a defrost problem that will need to be addressed to fix the unit. But to repair it so it will stop making the noise, you can defrost the ice (if present) with a hair blow dryer. This will keep the ice away for a few days. Good luck.

If there is a defrost problem, the heater (located around the coil) is most likely the problem.

Ice crystals forming on inside front freezer panel

Very possible the door seal is not properly sealed. Warm inflowing air onto a cold coil will cause ice build up at the lid.

Self defrosting deep freeze not defrosting

The excess frost in those areas is probably caused by leaky door gasket seals. They should be tight enough to hold a dollar bill securely all the way around. A defrost problem would start on the coils behind the back cover inside the freezer and would also appear on the back wall before it did on the door edges.

Upright freezer door inside developing ice

The door seal is at fault. Regardless of the small tear it is not sealing well.
Take a dollar bill and close it in the door. Then pull on the bill to feel resistance.
You will find it pulls easily in some place. That is where your air leak is that is causing the condensation.
Do this about every 6 inches all the way around the seal.
