Emerson Microwave Will Not Heat Food

The microwave will power on, timers work, etc......but it does not heat at all. Ever since we purchased the microwave, it powers off completely whenver cooking certain foods. For example, when cooking baked potatoes (4 or 5 placed in a cirlcle on oven safe plate) the microwave powers off after about 7-8 minutes of cooking; the whole thing powers off, lights and all. It then takes several minutes to power back on. This happens every time we bake potatoes, or pop more than one bag of microwave popping corn consecutively. It almost seems like it just gets too hot. It is positioned in an area with sufficient ventilation, several inches on all sides and top.

Ok, if this unit has stopped heating, this will confirm a major fault within the Magnetron. this device is responsible for the heating affect and, you will need to replace this damaged part in order to restore proper heating functions in you microwave oven.

Fuse is behind the control panel. Has cavity sensors and a magnatron thermal disc also. Start with the fuse and then pull it down if not the problem. Eric

SOURCE: no power to control panel

There's a safety thermostat attached to the cooking cavity in most ovens to detect when something overheats. Once they operate they cut off power to the rest of the oven. These are usually non-resettable, and need to be replaced to repair the oven. If there wasn't any damage done to the interior of the oven you can see about having the repair made.

Mic.oven takes longer to heat food

The microwave may not be cooking at full power, check the settings. If okay the magnetron is on it's way out and will eventually fail.

Microwave still lights up and timer still works but it won't heat anything up

The magnetron is the most likely cause, "heats food" this part is the heart of the microwave and expensive. The other two parts to consider is the high voltage capacitor and diode, but repairs will run high depending on the nature of the problem.

Mw8992rd seems to be working fine except won't heat food. timer, touch pad, inside light, carousel all work fine. tried different times and power levels but still no heat.

Hello,
This sounds like a bad magnetron that would have to be replaced. There is up to 2000 volts stored in a microwave, even when unplugged. For saftey reasons I would strongly suggest you have a qualified technician check it out.
Hope this helps.

My GE spacemaker microwave doesn't heat up foods. There is a slight bit of heat generated but not much. All timers, lights, etc. work normal. It is a GE model jvm1440. It is about 3 years old. The problem...

IT COULD BE A NUMBER OF THINGS RANGING FROM DIODES TO CAPACITORS TO YOUR MAGNATRON OR THERMOSTAST OR TRANSFORMERS. IT'S DIFFICULT TO DIAGNOSE WITHOUT SEEING THIS MICROWAVE. YOU MAY BE BETTER OFF GETTING YOURSELF A DIFFERENT ONE.

Does not "heat" food.

The Microwave Magnetron or power circuit break down . You need to replacement the parts .
Good luck
