Turntable Issues I posted a comment regarding turntables that I recently purchased. Any advice? When I power on my tables everything seems normal, but when I turn on tables...The lights flicker slowly. Also, the audio sounds real slow and distorted. All connections are hooked up properly and audio connections and means are correct.

I understand that the turntable is not spinning on your Frigidaire microwave, model# FGMV174KBB. There is a possibility that your microwave is in a "Turntable off" mode. I might try radio shack for a belt, and if you here a motor run but table doesnt turn, that is probably what you need to replace. many of these can be lifted out of the cabinet enough to get to things

look for supply to turntable motor if supply is coming on motor and it is not moving it means motor is faulty

These cheaply-made turntables only do ONE job and that is to archive your record collection. Not surprised by the fact the record plays great on your normal turntable.

The arms on these turntables have quite a heavy tracking weight to them and you cannot adjust it. My advice to you is if you want to archive vinyl there are plenty of quality HIFI turntables out there that will blow away your Seal turntable. Don't be tempted to put a small coin on the headshell as this will INCREASE the weight and probably damage your record.

A friend of mine has one these awful Seal tables and I think they are pretty bad sound quality, also they go under many different brand names.

The turntable system typically consists of the motor, the coupler, the turntable support with rollers, and the tray.

Here is a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand.

If yours is not set to be off via the control panel, and it won't rotate or it sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.

To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven.

But if you've recently had trouble with the cooktop lights, then the control board may be damaged.

Unless your JBL system has a dedicated "Phono" input, you will need to purchase a pre-amp, don't fret! they are not expensive, you can find them on google, yahoo, or ebay, starting around $25.00 If you need any more information, post a comment and I can guide you thru it. Hope this helps

You probaably do not have a phono input on the digital surround amp you are using. Your sound is bad for 2 reasons

1. Your Turn Table has low output level,about 100 times less than a CD player.
   
2. You need RIAA equalisation to reduce the treble and boost the bass. This is for replaaying any modern vinyl or LP's

You can get an outboard preamp that matches the output of your T/T to suit the normal aux input on todays digital surround amp.
You can get one online from here. Or if you are keen build one from a circuit here

Yes, shims are fine, but just remember, shims are prone to movement. Why don't you bring all the feet to their maximum setting, then adjust from there. Perhaps the table it is sitting on needs the shims?

Yes, that large metal box is the housing for the transformer. Not too hard to replace, but if not done properly can cause serious damage to your turntable.

I've never heard of a transformer on these units causing a buzzing noise. Did you buy this used or new? If it's new, it's highly unlikely that the issue is with the transformer. However, we have been seeing some 'unusual' issues with Technics 1200s lately, which we attribute to a decline in quality standards @ Matsushita (Technics parent company).

The transformer can be purchased HERE. There really isn't much to replacing this part, just put it back exactly as you took it apart. Take pictures along the way, to help you if you get stuck. Also take some notes on where each part goes.

First and foremost, check to see that your turntable is set to the correct voltage setting for your area.

Remove your slipmat, as well as any rubber mat you might have on the unit. You want to expose the metal turntable platter. On the platter you'll see 2 holes on opposite ends. Rotate the platter to the 9 o'clock position. You'll see a voltage switch - 115V / 220V - make sure it's set to your country's setting:

U.S. / Japan / Canada: 110-115V
EUROPE: 220V

IF, you do not see this option on your turntable, then you do not have a Dual Voltage turntable. Now your talking about damage to the drive system. Which is comprised of various circuits, of which anyone of them could be bad. At this point, you'll have to take it to a reputable service center to have it diagnosed.
