Did you use genunie brother black ink cartridge?

ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Cartridges. !!!!!!!!

These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. It also will not let you print anything, if only one of the cartridges is empty.

I wanted to print only Black, and would not let me, because I did not have any ink in one of my cyan cartridges. Go figure.

I located a page on http://www.fixyourownprinter.com forum, which had plenty of details about similar issues.

Try the forum, there are alot of issues like yours.

SOURCE: I have a Brother mfc-240c - will not print yellow

The print head is clogged. If not unclogging with cleaning process may you try to clean manualy. You need to dissasembly the hole printer to remove the print head.Put it in hot water. If you don't have a technical skills, don't try anything.
If not help just buy new printer, because the new print head will cost you as much more.

SOURCE: Brother MFC-240C Prints colors fine

This could be several things, some of which may mean your machine will have to be repaired by a Brother agent (probably cost you more than a new one), and or it's time to bin it.
However, sometimes it's just because the print head, or the pipes that connect the ink tanks to the print head, have become blocked with dried out ink.
If you search on YouTube, you will find a few videos that show how to clear such blockages - you may not find your exact model number, but many Brother machines use almost identical components to many others so the basic technique will be the same. Also search on Ebay for printer cleaning/head blockage kits - quite a few printers (not just Brother) suffer similar problems and a few businesses have sprung up on EBay that sell kits to help you sort this. They sometimes have links to a video they have produced showing how to use the kit which can give you ideas. Again, your exact model number or even make might not come up but these kits might be adaptable to your machine. Got to be worth a tenner or so before binning it ! Good luck.

Brother mfc290c not printing incomeing faxes or copying anything new printer 3 months old paper comeing out blank new cartridges

Did you use Brother Genuine Cartirdges????

ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Cartridges. !!!!!!!!
That sounds like your problem.

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother MFC-240C All-In-One InkJet Printer. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc.

Go figure.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. .

If you are using Generic, replace them with Genuine Brother Ink Cartridges.

I have a Brother MFC 240C printer that will not print black ink. I just changed all the cartridges. All the other cartridges print. I ran the clean cycle many times. No error messages just blank paper.

I have a brother MFC 3240C. My Black ink stopped printing(initially printed horizontal faded lines and gradually got worse), the other colors were printing fine. I tried cleaning numerous time( 50 -100 times over 1-2 weeks ). Still no improvement. The way I print now is:
1. I go to Printer Properties
2. Change Media type from "Plain Paper" to "Inkjet Paper".
3. Change Quality to "Photo".

This takes a long time to print 1-2 minutes per page. However, this works for me since this is my Home printer and use it for printing only few pages here are there.

My brother MFC 240C was set for printing only black and white, since I had only installed a black cartridge. Now I have installed the three color cartrdiges also. How do I change the settings to print...

You have to change the settings in your print driver. In Windows XP or Vista, go into the Control Panel and the Printers & Faxes applet. Right click on the Brother print driver and select Properties. In one of the tabs there should be an option for either Grayscale or Color printing (probably under Color Management) -- change this to Color and then click OK or Apply to save the changes.

By changing it in the print driver settings, the change should take effect for all programs that you print from.

Printer will not print dut to other color cartige. being empty.

The color cartridges print text that appears black by mixing the three primary colors (cyan, magenta, and yellow) to make composite black. To achieve a realistic black, large quantities of colored ink are used. Because black cartridges use much less ink to create a similar shade of black, they print more pages in black than the color cartridge.
If the color cartridges on the printer are next to empty, you will not be able to get perfect prints at all.

Please have the cartridges replaced to do the printing jobs again.

Won't print in color

Make sure you run the cleaning mode under the INK button. Run it 2-3 times to get the ink through the tubes. If you are using generic ink, it may have clogged the tubes in side the unit.

Then your point is i should buy a new set of color cartrages like the 3 colors before the printing should take place then how can i set my brothers printer mfc-240c into black cartrages only no need to buy...

First - read the manual as regards printing. I notice that you can print in Black and White but I cannot find anything to say that you only need the Black ink to do this (therefore I think that I am right in saying that you need the colour cartridges).

Question - Has it worked with only the black ink before now?

As a final solution - Contact Brother direct and check out their FAQ's and/or send them an email asking if you can run the printer with Black ink only installed (I suspect the answer will be no).

If the answer to the above questions comes back as "Yes you can use Black only" (they may tell you how to set this up in which case ignore my next comments), then please supply some more information as regards what happened immediately before it stopped printing. This will help to drill down to the problem.
