The "sparker on mine is worker and I can see the spark but the pilot does not light. I was able to light the pilot with a lighter as long as a pressed down on the control know it stayed lit. Once I tried to turn the knob to low the pilot went out. I pressed the know for well over a minute and repated it 5 or so times. The propane tank is full.

The ticking noise is the ignigtor. If the gas tank is full, and the regulator is on, then try lighting with a match or fire of some sort. Be careful of the spark-er! If it lights, then the spark needs to be adjusted so it catches the gas better. If it doesn't lite, then the hole for the pilot is plugged. An outside heater is common for a spider or other creature to make this his home. You need to clean it out. Compressed air even another flame may do it. if not It needs to be removed and cleaned out. If you can see the little hole, trey poking a thin piece of wire into it, it may get it.

If the pilot lights and you can ignite the heater but then it goes out after a few minutes it is your tip switch. Your tip switch is inline with your thermocouple so the symptom points to the thermocouple. If the pilot doesn't light at all take apart the heater from the top down one layer at a time until you can see the pilot assy. There will be a small hole at the base of the pilot assy. We use a compressor here in our shop and in the field to blow the pilot out from the bottom up. Never do the top down you will compress any debris down into the pilot and cover the pilot orifice.

SOURCE: charmglow gas patio heater

Your thermocoupler seems at fault. The thermocoupler is that probe that sits in the pilot flame. It controls the main fuel valve. Make sure that probe is in the pilot flame, better at the tip of the flame and hold the button down for a minute or so after lighting the pilot. If pilot extinguishes, the coupler is faulty. If pilot stays on the heater should fire up when you let up on the pilot button.. Good luck

Charmglow Patio Heater

The yhernocoupler would snuff the pilot if bad. What ignites the overhead burners? and what regulates the overhead gas supply? Look into this. Too much gas will not light as easily as proper balance gas and air. Even more so in a tower type heater.. Turn the gas on low and the pilot should grab it. Good luck

Charmglow patio heater

Well, I just went out this morning and worked on the heater after it would not light last night. Turns out that a spider or moth set up camp in the pilot light intake housing and plugged up the two small mixer holes that pull in air for the pilot light. This would explain the 'yellow-flame'. I took a punch awl and some compressed air and cleaned out the hole, then re-installed the cover and knob. Lastly, I turned and depressed the knob and the pilot light ignited almost instantly, stayed on when I let the knob up, and the heater turned on normally after that. Good luck, I hope this helps.

Outdoor patio heater won't stay lit

I'm told by Charmglow that the problem is the Thermocouple. iHowever,it took me several calls to get someone to admit this. They are sending a new thermocoupler. My heater is less than a year old and under warranty--but it's a shame things like this happen.

Originally I was told it could'nt be the thermocoupler as they normally last at least 5 years.

Try it--as it may solve your problem as well.
