Hi there. Firstly... make your mom a cup of tea . You know how to calm her down . Then take on this task . It looks like a impossible task , but just follow the instructions . You can do this: Install the Windows 8.1 Update (KB 2919355)

  • Microsoft support. Code 0x800F0922 This error might mean that a file needed by Windows Update is damaged or missing. Here are a few steps you can try to fix the problem:

    1. Run the Windows 8.1 Update troubleshooter to fix the problem.
    2. Install the Windows 8.1 Update or Windows RT 8.1 Update.
Code 0x800F0923 This error might mean that a driver or other software on your PC isn't compatible with the update. For info about how to fix this problem, contact Microsoft support. Code 0x800F0922 This error might mean that your PC couldn't connect to the Windows Update servers. If you're using a VPN connection to connect to a work network, disconnect from the network and turn off the VPN software (if applicable) and then try to install the update again.

The error could also mean there isn't enough free space in the System Reserved partition. You might be able to fix this problem by using third-party software to increase the size of the System Reserved partition. Error: We couldn't complete the updates. Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer.

Error: Failure configuring Windows Updates. Reverting changes. These are generic errors that might appear any time a Windows update fails. You'll need to determine the specific error code to investigate how to best resolve this problem

You can find the error code for the failed update by viewing your update history. Look for KB 2919355 in the list, note the error code, and then contact Microsoft support.

    To view your update history:

    1. Open Windows Update by swiping in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), tapping or clicking Settings, tapping or clicking Change PC settings, and then tapping or clicking Update and recovery.
    2. Tap or click View your update history.
Error: The update is not applicable to your computer. This error might mean that your PC doesn't have the required update KB 2919442 installed. Check to make sure that all important updates, including KB 2919442, are installed on your PC. If all updates are installed, you might need to refresh your PC.

    To refresh you PC:

Error 1402.Setup cannot open the registry kaey. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\CLSID\{7EA9A8FA-F5D2-49E1-99E8-C26EE07FCEEB}\LocalServer32.

The first thing you should do to fix this error is - if you're using Windows 98 or 2000 - to use the 'registry checker' facility. This is done by loading up the "Run Console" with CTRL + R and then typing "registry checker". If the registry is intact then this will not be a problem. On later versions of Windows, you should use a 'registry cleaner' program to perform this task.

If you have XP, Vista or Windows 7, you should first download a registry cleaner from the Internet and let that scan your system. It will look for any registry errors on your PC and then fix them, which should fix the 1402 error in the process. To use one of these, you need to download a registry scanner program and then let it scan your PC. It will identify all the damaged parts of Windows and should fix them. And if one of these registry errors is causing the 1402 error then a quick restart after the registry scan should enable you to install Office or the program you wanted.

If that method did not work, you should try using a different user account, or creating a new user account, to install the program onto. It's often the case that user accounts will become corrupted for whatever reason, blocking access to the registry. This causes the 1402 error because it means that the program cannot access the files and settings it needs to create when it's being installed. You should try creating a new administrator account and then installing the program on that.

Can't install adobe reader 9.1 - Error 1402

Hai,

Error 1402 Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or
contact you support personnel.

They are using Windows XP Home edition. I fear that they
have one to many viruses/ spyware apps on the machine
already and it may just be time to re-install the OS, but
wanted to make sure this was not something that someone had
ran into before...

Thanks

Win98

Mada, Are you asking if it is hard to install W98 or are you haveing problems? Its not too hard, however, W98 is no longer support my Microsoft which means no more updates. If this is not connected to the Internet that probably isn't a big deal for simple computing work. If you do expect to connect it to the Internet the lack of updates will put you at severe risk of compromise. If you are having some other difficulty please post the exact issue, problem or error message.
