Unfortunately the stepper rail linkage is defective that moves the laser pickup assembly, the only solution is replace the whole laser pickup assembly which is not cost effective, cheaper to buy a new portable dvd player.
You don't. The remote is required to make this change.
Contact Best Buy phone support and explain your problem. Ask if there is a replacement remote. The number should be here: www.insigniaproducts.com

Take it to a Best Buy store and ask a Blue shirt in the portable DVD department if they have a Dynex remote for the model you have. If they do, you can use the remote to unlock your player and be able to use it. They won't be able to sell/give you the remote, but they should be able to assist you.
First, there is no such thing as a 'universal' remote, even the 'learning' remotes will not learn from every original remote.
Second, for anyone to help you, you need to post both model numbers, the player's and the remotes.
Generally, if a remote is only even a little older than the player, it may not contain the code set for the player.
Every time you add another set of headphones it will cut the power sent to each headphone down as the power is shared between all the headphones being used. If you need it louder simply use less headphones as the unit does not have enough power to run all 3 at the volume you desire.
