Opening the door wont matter. If you stop the cycle during a run it will always go into a drain. You might have a plugged drain line or burnt drain pump..

Dishwasher stopping mid-cycle, water left in bottom, sometimes detergent dispenser does not open.

Man I love posts like yours. Makes answering easier.

In short, yes. You probably are right that the dishwasher is aborting mid-cycle, but the why is a tricky question. There are wet parts inside as well as moving parts and high temperature. It is possible your control electronics are being exposed to moisture mid-cycle, causing the dishwasher to cut out. This would have been easy to spot by the technician though. An alternate theory could be that the dishwasher's door sensor is stating that the dishwasher gets opened mid cycle due to all the shaking around. This wouldn't have been picked up by your technician and would cause the dishwasher to effectively "pause" itself without draining or using soap. Check and make sure the door is latched securely and see if it's easy to trigger the door sensor (pull gently on the door while the dishwasher is running).

Unfortunately, the best answer I have for investigation is to "babysit." Grab your laptop, pop in a movie, get a nice drink, and plop yourself down next to the dishwasher once you set it to run. The moment it stops working properly, take a look at everything you can.

My KitchenAid Dishwasher door won't stay closed. It keeps popping open after a few seconds.

I experienced the same problem after my tension cables broke. The door fell open with such force that it bent the hinges a little. If you've replaced the tension strings (which you should do every 5-8 years) then you don't have to replace the latch. I did and it didn't solve the problem.
Here's the solution:
Put a towel at the bottom of each side of the door by the hinge.
Push the door closed a couple of times to bend back the hinges.
Remove the towels and you're back in action.
Good luck

My Kitchenaid model KURD25SHBL0 dishwasher is not draining. Drain line is clear, wash cycle runs fine, and there is no obstruction to overfill sensor. Can hear pump runnng during drain cycle but no...

Usually the wiring won't affect the direction of the pump turn. It is more likely that the fins on the drain pump empellar are damaged.

KitchenAid KUDSO1FLSS5 - door pops open

I am an experienced techician and have tried all these solutions in the past sometimes at no avail. But replacing the tub which has a limited lifetime warranty along with hinge arms will solve the issue. This has such a margional clearance I can never see anything visible causing the door to pop open

Kitchenaid Dishwasher keeps opening during cycle

Check to make sure that the legs are not adjusted too far up. This will push the dishwasher up so that it hits the bottom of your countertop and may not allow the dishwasher to close completely. The motion of the dishwasher may cause the door to reopen.

Not all of the soap dissolving, some left in dispenser and bottom

Kitchenaid lists 130 dishwashers with this model. Need the rest of the number

Back in the day, when I worked on K Dishwashers, the drain valve was the problem typically.
It would get a piece of glass, from broken glass or other item, or a toothpick, whatever stuck in the drain valve. It would not completely close. During the wash cycle, water would be trickling down the drain and by the time the soap dispenser opens, the water would be gone or nearly gone.
Check this. When you hear the dispenser snap open, stop the dishwasher and open the door.
If you have little or no water, you are losing the water during the wash cycle.

Let me know.
