The garbage disposal goes on, but it is not draining. In fact, brown water and carrot peels are coming back up -- a definite clog!

The clog is most likely not right there at the disposal. It's probably further down the drain. If you wait a good long while (an hour or two) before you run the water, then run the water to see how long it takes to back up, you can get an idea of how far along the drain the clog is. Hopefully you have a clean-out port where you need it. A drain snake may be needed.
By the way, a common clogger is to run a bunch of peels through the disposal then not run enough water to chase them all of the way to the larger diameter drain.

Sink erator

First, unplug the power cord to the "Sink aerator" disposal from under the sink storage area. Next, remove the black rubber strainer from the upper sink area leading down into the disposal. (It simply pulls upward to remove) This will allow you to put your hand down into the disposal area to physically clean out the disposal deposits by hand. Pull out whatever is plugging the disposal and throw the debris in the trash, not back into the disposal. Once everything is removed from inside the disposal, flush it out completely with water from the faucet until it drains freely. Reassemble the black rubber strainer and plug in the disposal once clean. Be sure not to put potatoe peelings and other non-disposable items which can't be ground up easily in the garbage disposal. Keep in mind, just because it says garbage disposal, it doesn't mean all "garbage." Also, always use plenty of water when using the disposal and allow the water to run for a minute or so afterwards to finish washing down the debris in the sink "P" trap drain out through the outer sewer line.

Water does not drain from sink unless disposal is turned on and running. what could it be?

It would appear there is a blockage (a clog) in the disposal. You might try "FIRST" unplugging the disposal from under the sink. Put a piece of masking tape over the switch to secure it in the "OFF" position. Then remove the black rubber strainer from sink leading down into the disposal. (just pull it out by hand) Clean out all debris by hand. Put the removed debris in the trash can. Run hot water down into the disposal assuring it to drain properly. Do not put items into the disposal which cannot be ground up easily such as potato peelings and meat products.

When dishwasher is emptying it is backing into sink

there is probably nothing wrong with Dishwasher itself.
Your Sink drain is stopped up or your Garbage disposal is clogged.
usually, dishwasher drain is connected to the Garbage Disposal, but if the dishwasher empties the water into the Garbage disposal, if its clogged then water will come out of the sink. Same if sink is clogged between sink and sewer.

If you fill up your sink and then water drains away, then you know your sink itself is not the problem. If its only the Garbage disposal side that does not drain, its the garbage disposal that is clogged.

Garbage disposal sink will not drain, every thing sounds like its working

Sounds like the disposal drain is clogged.
Under the sink, put bucket under plumbing, take a photo of parts, remove 2 nuts on p-trap and trap falls loose.
Run water and disposal and see if disposal drains correctly.
If disposal is still clogged, remove tailpiece on side of disposal to access the disposal cutter chamber. The tailpiece is sealed against the disposal with rubber washer. Make sure washer is clean when putting tailpiece back.
If necessary, use coat hanger to reach into disposal.
Clean out trap and reassemble tubular drain using photos to help assist where each part goes.
I use white teflon joint compound on each joint and washer when reassembling tubular joints to make sure they seal first time.

I never put potato peels in but in the 3 months I have owned this house it has stopped up twice. Why?

The problem should really have nothing to do with potato peels. Even a cheap disposer should have no problem chewing up things much worse than that.
There are two main things that could be causing your problem: 1. Defective disposer or improper installation 2. Improper usage of disposer (more likely)
I've been known to put entire sinkfulls of waste down the diposer (mine is an ancient thing from the 70s), and I've had a clog maybe once. You have to be conscious of the amount of water that's going down with the waste. Ideally, before anything solid at all goes down the drain you should turn the faucet on COLD full blast and then turn on the disposer. The grinding mechanism is so fast that the disposer shreds the solids and blows them into the drain pipe at a very high rate. If there's not enough water down there to get thrown down the drain pipe with the waste that's when a clog happens. So don't turn the disposer on AFTER putting a lot of waste down there and always do it with a full flow of cold water. Feed the disposer gradually with the waste and let it run until it sounds empty.
When done right, the worst clogs can easily be dispatched with a plunger in three or four strokes. With a toilet the best way to it make sure the plunger is sealed good and plunger with short, fast, powerful strokes. When you unclog a disposer, the clog is almost always in the connection where the disposer discharges into the drain pipe because of the funnel effect. When you push the plunger down the water pressure will go up but the waste will compact tighter and resist flow even more. You want to push the plunger down and let it leak until you get it as far down as possible, then let it form a good seal and give a powerful upward stroke. That'll create strong suction and pull the clump of waste particles back, where they'll mix with the excess water and go right down the drain. If you don't have a plunger, you'll find that for some reason a soda can will work in a pinch.

Garbage disposal spouting water after turned off

Hello, turn on the disposal without water and pour hot water into disposal. Be careful not to let it splash back on you! If this doesn't help you have to remove the drain and drain trap and clean them out. If you need more help let me know. Good luck.
