Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop periodically shuts OFF

My Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop periodically shuts down. With the AC adapter plugged in, the green "power" indicator light on the laptop sometimes turns OFF. If I unplug the adapter, the indicator turns orange, and when I plug it in again it turns green for a while. When I put the cursor over the power icon on the status bar it indicates battery either 1% or 2% charged and charging. But, it doesn't seem to go above 2%. I checked the power adapter with a voltmeter and it is about 19.6 vdc. I checked battery terminals - I don't know which ones supply power, but some terminal pairs read 12.6 vdc. I got a new aftermarket battery about 8 months ago. How can I determine if I need a new AC power adapter, new battery, or a laptop internal problem?

Sounds like the power jack in the back of the laptop is loose. Try wiggling the power cord where it connects to the laptop.and see if the power indicator light goes on and off. If your power jack has a loose connection inside the laptop, it won't charge your battery and will kill it faster. It's usually around $100 to have someone fix it. If your good with soldering small electronics, you can find the jack on Ebay and carefully solder a new one on.

The first thing you should do is to clear What is wrong with your laptop?belowing are some steps you may cheak out the problem by following them

1 Leave power plugged in
Make sure the computer has been charging from the power plug for at least two hours before attempting to unplug it.
2 Remove and reconnect battery
In some situations the battery can become loose. Removing it and then put it back into the laptop.
3 Third-party utility
Use a third-party battery utility to determine the total capacity of the battery.
4 Refresh battery
Some laptop manufacturers allow for batteries to be refreshed through the CMOS. Refreshing a battery can help restore older batteries and give them more life, and in some cases report if the battery is bad.
5 Replace battery and/or AC adapter
If your computer is still in warranty we suggest skipping to the next step.
If the above steps have been completed, we suggest replacing the battery in the computer and/or AC adapter. In most situations it's simply a bad battery.
6 Service laptop
If after following the above steps the computer is still unable to charge the battery it's likely that a component within the laptop has failed and will need to be replaced. Contact the computer manufacturer for information on getting the laptop serviced.

You've checked the p/s and it has volts out. Try removing the battery and running the laptop just on the p/s. If it works like this the battery is dead. Otherwise the laptop has a problem.

If the battery is dead, buy a new battery or run it on p/s alone. Laptops should be run on battery alone as much as possible, or the battery dies.

Battery won?t charge and AC adaptor not recognized

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 that just turned two years old.

After one year, my dell 6-cell battery started to falter, so Ipurchased a new 9-cell battery. This worked fine until a couple ofmonths ago when I noticed that my 65W adaptor was frayed. I bought anew 65W Dell Inspiron 6000 ac adapter andit worked well for about a week until I noticed that my battery wasn’tcharging at times. If I was patient, or unplugged the adapter andplugged it back in, the battery began charging and all was saved.

This lasted only a short time until my Dell Inspiron 6000 batterywouldn’t charge at all for long periods of time, and sometimes thecomputer wouldn’t turn on, even if plugged into the wall. I thought itmight still be the adaptor, so I borrowed a fully functioning 90W Delladapter from a family member to test the system. This worked better, but still not great.

When I removed the battery and started only fromAC power, the functionality was also intermittent. Usually, if thecomputer actually started, I received the start-up error “The Inspiron 6000 AC AdapterType could not be determined, etc. etc. etc.” After pressing F1, thecomputer booted, but if the battery wasn’t in, the computer didn’tusually last long before shutting off. Unsure if maybe the battery wasthe problem, I put the 6-cell Inspiron 6000 batteryback in, and it too wouldn’t charge, although (together with the 90Wadapter) my computer would at least start more consistently if pluggedin. The error remained however, and sometimes the system stopsrecognizing power and switches to my ever dwindling battery power untilthe adapter is recognized again.

The problem is with the jack on the motherboard inside our Inspiron 6000’s. This is the jack you plug your power plug into on the back of the laptop.

Somehow the jack gets worn and does not make correct contact withthe laptop so the Laptop does not see the power supply as a legit Dellbrand. So the powersupply will not charge the laptop battery and run the laptop at the same time.

Modern laptops are all sold with built-in wireless laptop ac adapter. Some power notebooks used by corporate road warriors will have powerfulcellular adapters that connect the laptop to the Internet via the cellphone infrastructure

A bad connection between DC-IN power jack on the system board and the system board is a very common problem with dell pa 12,dell e1505 and Dell Inspiron 6000notebooks. If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix theproblem by resoldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it’s stillunder warranty, it would be fixed at no charge to you. Problem symptoms:

  • Laptop randomly shuts down without any warning.
  • Power LED and battery charge LED start flickering when you wigglethe power cord or the AC adapter tip on the back or your laptop.
  • The battery will not get charged.
  • When you plug ac adapter for laptop, the laptop appears to be dead and there is no LED * activity at all (DC-IN jack on the system board is broken).
To fix the problem, you have to take your laptop apart, remove the system board to resoleder or replace the DC-IN jack. dell pa 12 and Dell Inspiron 6000 disassembly guides will help you to remove the system board. Take a closer look at the power jack on the system laptop board witha magnifying glass. In most cases you get the power problem because ofa bad connection between the DC jack and the system board, you’ll see acrack between the DC jack connector and the system board.

I can't get my dell inspiron to power on. I will charge the battery using the wall charger but will not come on. What can I try?

Try this if will help.

Remove battery and unplug the ac adapter from laptop.

Without the power sources hold down the power button for 10 seconds.

Check the ac adapter from wall power socket if ac adapter LED is ON.

Plug back in the ac adapter to laptop then check the LED from the ac adapter if it stayed on.

If ac adapter LED turned off right after you plug in the ac adapter to laptop then you need to replace the ac adapter, motherboard and power daughter board.

Hold down the D key then Press Power Button once. Check if color display will appear in the screen.

if the ac adapter stays on you and still no power indicator from the laptop you need to replace motherboard and power daughter board.

Hope this helps.

Dell Inspiron 6000 (approx 4 years old) has an issue with the power cord internal connection? Battery and Power cord/adapter are fine. Computer constantly switches from battery to AC when powered on. ...

The input jack that is soldered to the motherboard (where the AC jack plugs in) probably has a cold solder joint. Thus the laptop switches from battery to AC power. You can try to have the solder joints
re-soldered.

Inspiron Battery Light Flashing Orange

Battery.

Dell has a chip internal to the battery programed to shut down after a certain number of charge cycles. This means every time you plug the laptop in with the battery installed. When it reaches this determined number the battery effectively shuts down, even though technically it's still good. There have been loads of complaints on the net toward Dell over this issue. I have myself experience this. Battery good one day, powered down, went home, powered up... only to receive the deadly flashing light. Only cure is to replace battery. Several hacks trying to get around this but they're all horrible. Bad Dell - bad, bad Dell!

Not starting

Just to sum it up, are we talking about the Dell Inspiron 1750 or a Dell Inspiron 6000? Seeing two different things here. With the regards to the ac adapter, How "Warm"are we talking about here. 1 to 10. "1" 100 below 0 or "10" Nuclear Reactor Hot? Any adapters can get warm to the touch without overheating and frying. Was there a blackout or power outages in your area or T-Storm on the day you left. Take off the battery from the laptop. Check the battery lights. Do they flash or do they all light up when you press the button. With the laptop not working, lets hope the battery didnt fry the mainboard. Have you try to fire it up again after the adapter has a chance to cool down. By now, it should be fine, if you haven't use it.

Dell inspiron b130

check if the ac adapter or charger has a green light on it. if not, replace the charger. for dell chargers, it should have a green light to indicate that the charger is getting power from the wall outlet. if the ac adapter is good, then you might need to replace the mother board as the ac port is integrated.

hope this resolves your problem.
