How to adjust upper tension

Upper tention is set when you choose how big are small you want the stich to be. Bottom is set by how loose or tight the bobbin knob is.

How can I fix the top stich

I like to adjust with 2 colors, then you know which is from the spool, and which one is from the bobbin.

Most bobbin shuttles have a small screw to adjust the tension.

It sounds like your upper thread is adjusted too tight, but only if the loops around it (from the bottom thread) are tight and small. If those loops around the top thread are loose, then you need to tighten the shuttle screw. ;)

I notice this happens to me if I change thread types, also if I sew different thickness of cloth on the same settings. I tend to adjust until the point of breaking thread, then loosen the top a teeny bit.

My top stich is tight, but bottom is loose of my singer sewing machine.

Think in opposites... the top stitch is formed by the bottom thread tension and the bottom of the stitch by the top. So either the bobbin thread is too tight or the top thread is too loose. Check the bobbin thread first as that is the one most overlook. It should come out of the bobbin without having to yank it hard but it should have a little resistance.

Top stitche is to tight and bottom stitche is to loose

Meaning you have adjusted the tension for the top thread as well as the bobbin?

Use two distinct colors of thread - one for the top and one for the bottom.

Thread the machine with the presser foot up.

The two threads should meet in the middle of the stitch with neither obvious on the opposite side of the seam.

Set the top thread tension to 4 and adjust the bobbin as needed.

Loose stich on bottom of fabric

Hi. The problem is that your upper tension is too loose. It needs to be tighter in order to pull the bobbin thread up.
