Lowering feed dogs You can lower the feed dogs by moving the switch at the back of the free arm to the left. Move the switch to the right if you wish to raise the feed dogs. Note: The feed dogs will not raise immediately when the lever is switched. Turn the handwheel one full turn or start sewing to re-engage the feed dogs.

Dropping the Feed Dog
The feed dog can be lowered with the drop-feed lever for sewing on buttons etc.
Shift the drop-feed lever to the right to lower the feed dog.
Shift the lever to the left to raise the feed dog, it will return to the up position when the machine is started.
NOTE:The feed dog should be in the up position for regular sewing. Turn the handwheel toward you to check if the feed dog comes up after setting the lever in the up position
The feed dog for that machine is NOT designed to be raised or lowered; instead a cover is put over the needle plate. You might want to remove the needle plate--it's designed to be removed to access the bobbin case--and see if you can pop it up again. On models that DO have the ability to raise and lower their feed dogs, once it has been lowered, if you press the dial or lever to raise it, it won't raise until the hand wheel is turned one or two times.
The older machines had the switch directly behind the needle mechanism. Reach behind the machine and see if you can feel it. It should be a slider type of switch. The real old machines did not have the capability of raising and lowering the feed dogs, so an index card was taped over the dogs so that they would not interfere with free motion. Good luck!!
I was having trouble with this too, but found more help online...you have to switch the dog feed back to 'up'....then turn the needle wheel toward you....the feed dog should snap back into place :) Hope this helps :D
