Possible resons... the fan motor is bad...the fan plug in the housing has vibrated out....the wire to the fan outlet came loose from the wire nut connection inside the electical box...
try plugging a light or other small electrical device into the fan plug and see if it works (be sure the wall switch is on) it will help you determine the remaining possibilities. try plugging the fan into an extension cord to see if it works, if it runs then the fan is ok and the problem is in the wiring connection. if it doesn't work, the fan motor is bad.
hope this helps....jay
fans 101.
1:the fan is packed in grease clean it.
2:the fan is bad.
3:the controller is bad, to it, or related parts bad (caps and ballast or switches)
4:or the last owner , unplugged, it above.
you didnt say it quite last week or now.
only that it does not work
history matters, in most cases.
5:even the wrong fan motor installed! yah !
do not hot wire the fan as jay says
if the fan uses ballast or cap start it will burn up and you can get burned touching it red hot. do not hot wires things you do not understand.! ok, and jay, that be a bad act.
there are 100s of fans used in vents.
many not close to same. and many that can not be simply hot wired ! A hard cold fact.
the fan does not hum? or make any noise.
is my post.
if it hums turn it off and unpack the grease.
