I have had my acer aspire 5520 laptop for 3-4 years and just starting having problems with the battery not holding a charge. I ordered a new replacement and just installed it, turned on the computer and it seemed to work fine for a few minutes until power shut down again. I tried taking the battery out and putting baack in and again same problem, computer powered up for a few seconds and quit. Any advice? I was wondering if there could be a problem with the ac power cord?

either dead battery or burned out power supply try buying universal one from radioshack or best buy make sure you can return it if its not solving the problem.
It looks like your battery is either discharged or has a short circuit.
Plug the power AC cord in the laptop and let recharge the battery at least 3 hours before you try to start it again. If the computer boots up, enter the BIOS and check to see if you have a "battery check" oprion. If you do, start it and let it run until it is done (it may take several hours to complete). It will check the battery charge cycle.
1. Actually the problem is not with the charger / adapter!
2. The plug-in port / jack of the laptop has become loose.
3. Don't try to work out the charging by adjusting the adapter plug with different angles. It will just damage the plug-in port (the wire inside the port will become loose and unaligned)!
4. Contact the Acer authorised service center for repair / replacement of that plug-in port / jack in the laptop! It'll just cost some bucks!
it sounds like your laptop's battery has a reduced charge cycle. I recomend charging it to full then letting it die 3 -5 times. (to completely die means that it wont turn on at all. usually this takes a couple of times turning on to be sure.) this should reset the internal memory there by restoring its charge capacity.
just conncet the main power and keep as it is for 10 - 20 minutes let the battery get charged. latre on try to swicth on the laptop .if you still facing the problem then remove the battery from laptop and directly switch on main power.
TAKE OUT BATTERY, REMOVE MAINS SUPPLY, HOLD POWER BUTTON DOWN FOR 30 SECS PUT POWER SUPPLY IN ONLY DO NOT PUT IN BATTERY TURN ON LAPTOP NOW PUT IN BATTERY
