Samsung HL-P5063W audio is fine, no picture. Initially made a loud buzzing sound, so we replaced the color wheel. No more buzzing sound, audio is fine, but screen is various shades of white. Left TV on for a few minutes, and screen developed a very symmetrical, vertical black line pattern against the white background. Any ideas?

Hi,Yes your problem sounds like the DMD board. This is how it works: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/dlp1.htm Basically the light of the lamp goes through a tunnel that carries a color wheel(rotating disc with a gamma of colors that creates the colors on your tv)then the light of the lamp goes through the DMD board which is a chip composed of around 2 million pixels that creates the images and colors. When it starts to fail it will create black bars, pixelation, color distortion or white dots on screens. Here's a video that will help you find where the DMd chip is located : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jr_9A5Xd2Q Have a blessed one!

My samsung 42 inch hdtv is making a buzzing noise

First. The whirring or buzzing sound you hear is the Color Wheel and it needs to be replaced. Second, since I do not know when and if the original lamp has been replaced it is a good idea to replaced the lamp. The bad Color Wheel is the one causing the set to shut down.

Picture is black and white

Does it sound like thin grinding noise?
The color wheel is very common problem. Color wheel for this model is about $100 to $150 plus labor.

No picture after replacing color wheel

every time I see this itbis a cable or plug that was left out or one that got pulled on and pulled the connector up out of the plug a little, you need, and not by sight by your hands to go over every plug and connector till you find one.

Model 5063W - loud noise

The picture is pink, that would point more toward the color wheel, and you can see the fan through the vents in the back and you can go from there. It sounds more like the color wheel since you have a picture malfunction.

Loud Humming Noise

Samsung is notorious for having the motor on the color wheel burn out. If the color on the tv starts to fade or shift tones when the rev'ing or noise is happening then you'll know its the color wheel. There are only two moving parts in this set, the color wheel and the fans. If you're smelling something, it could be either. Take the back off the set and put a piece of tape on the lamp door switch and turn the set on. Try to pinpoint the source of the noise. If its a fan, no big deal, Radio shack should have a replacement. If it sounds like its comming from under the set, dig a little deeper and try unhooking the color wheel motor, not as easy as I am making it sound but either way the fan is about $20 to fix and the color wheel is about $100. Sure beats a $400 tech bill. If you get stuck, comment back and I'll send pictures of the dismantle.
