Refer to the maintenance section of your manual for cleaning the machine.

Always thread a sewing machine with the presser foot up.

Check the needle to be sure the flat side of the needle shaft faces the back of the machine.

Check the bobbin to be sure the thread is feeding in the correct direction and though the proper guides.

Using the handwheel, lower the threaded needle, holding onto the the end of the thread and then raise to pull up the bobbin thread.

Take both threads under the presser foot and to the back of the sewing machine.

Place the fabric under the presser foot and while holding onto both threads, lower the needle into the fabric by turning the handwheel by hand and create one stitch.

Let go of the threads and press on the power pedal.

If this does not resolve the issue, the machine may need the timing adjusted and this needs to be done in a shop by an authorized Singer tech.

If the machine is new, the warranty may cover the adjustment.

I have a Singer 2263 which is old but not used often. I am making aprons for Christmas, I made 3 and all the sudden the bobbin started bunching together. What can I do?

hi Sue.
Why does my bobbin thread keep bunching up? Check Your Tension Settings. Looping underneath the fabric usually occurs when there is not enough tension in the needle thread to pull the bobbin thread. Sometimes thread bunching can be caused by something as simple as the tension dial being inadvertently turned.

When I sew I have thread bunching up underneath the fabric, I've changed needle size, thread, bobbins and cleaned out around the bobbin holder. I'm frustrated and out of ideas.

Susan--
Easy peasy, once you know the problem and how to fix it. It's called "bird nesting" or "thread nesting" or what I refer to as thread "barfs."

Install a brand new needle.
Remove all the thread from the machine.
**ALWAYS RAISE** the presser foot and rethread the top thread.
Verify the top thread path is correct.
Install and thread the bobbin case, make sure it is correct.
Set the top tension to the midway point.

Now retest your machine. Birds nests gone? You may need to tweak the top tension because the factory standard changes due to age and use.

FWIW, problems appearing under the fabric are an issue of the top thread. Thread problems appearing on top of the fabric is a bobbin issue.

Thread on my consew 225 keeps balling the thread on the bottbottom

Sounds like bird nesting. The upper thread accumulates under the fabric creating a series of loops and knots.

First: Install a brand new needle and make sure it is installed facing the correct direction. (A new needle is the least expensive fix for most sewing machine issues.)

Second: Remove the thread. RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Make sure it is threaded correctly (consult the owner's manual).

Third: Pull up the bobbin thread through the fabric and gently hold the thread tails in your left hand while slowly taking the first couple of stitches.

Thread is knotting up on bottom of fabric causing it to stop

1.check the needle & see if it's bent--if so replace
2.lay the needle on a flat surface & roll the needle over if it doesn't roll true replace
3.check for blunt needle-if needle makes a popping sound when needle penetrates fabric
4.needle is not all way up in holder
on my mechanical sewing machine sometimes the threads come off the take up lever, that causes the thread to bunch up under something I'm working on
also check thread in bobbin

The thread bunches up under the fabric

Your bobbin cotton is probably wound on too tightly

Thread is bunching underneath fabric

Needle in correct? Be sure your bobbin is not in upside down and turning the wrong way. Possibly the hook that the bobbicase fits in/on has been hit by a needle and caused a burr that is catching the thread as it comes around. The burr would have to be polished off or hook replaced. The machine could be slightly out of time also.
