My_secret_mb, Stop pressing the ON/OFF switch! It's broke!!! The unit's internal power supply will need some work done on it. Unit will need to be evaluated first!! This is a common problem for ALL LCD monitors. If unit out of warranty period, then you will need to do some intense speed reading of my higher page number responses in my fixya profile to understand the problem your cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp back-lit lcd monitor has and the options that you have. You will also need to base your decision on the age and total number of "ON" hours unit has seen during it's lifetime. Do not dispair or feel sad about what has happened to your monitor. A low side guess would be 50 units/day fail world-wide. Your unit may have failed filter capacitors or possible failed solder joint on printed circuit board. (thermally intermittant) I hope this helps you. 12fixlouie north of "Windy City" USA

Most common failure in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed Dell and other monitors to get some ideas what goes wrong: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further.

No power

Have tried checking the power cables or changing it? How about the power source also? If yes? There might be problem on the built in power supply of the monitor.

Black out

In most cases, the problem is caused by faulty filter capacitors in the power supply. You can open the back and replace the capacitors that look bulged and leaky or replace all the electrolytics in the power supply board. If it continues to turn off like that, the tubes are at the end of their service life.

If you have no desire to buy a new monitor at that point, the tubes are able to be replaced, but for overall simplicity- just order the replacements aet up for your specific monitor from Dell. Make sure they have the boots, the plastic attachments and connector for "drop in" use. If the tubes require connectors to be soldered on, it gets tedious and is not worth it from a standpoint of shop time..

Dell computer won't start up.

Hello,

Please connect an external monitor, and turn on the power. If it is working, then it is video and LCD problem.

If not working on external monitro, try to remove the battery, then unplug AC adapter. Then press and hold power button for 30 seconds. After that, put battery back and re plug AC. Turn on the power. If still not working, and no display on screen, Then the motherboard need to replace.

My monitor shuts down after one second.

Dell monitors automatically go into power-save mode after a preset amount of time when the computer is inactive. The Dell monitor will go completely black, instead of showing a screensaver. This doesn't mean that your Dell computermag-glass_10x10.gif has shut down. Instead, this allows your monitor to essentially turn off until it's needed again. You can change how long it is before the Dell monitor goes into power-save mode by changing your display settings.
  1. Step 1 Press any key on your keyboard or move your mouse. Either will turn off power-save mode. Alternately, you can press the power button on your Dell computer tower or laptop.
  2. Step 2 Press any key a second time if the monitor goes from power-save to stand-by mode. Stand-by mode allows the screensaver to appear.
  3. Step 3 Enter your user name and password into the login prompt if your computer requires a login. Press "Enter" to begin using your Dell computer.
  4. Step 4 Change the display settings on your Dell monitor to prevent your monitor from going into power-save mode prematurely. Right-click anywhere on your desktop and choose "Properties." Click the "Screensaver" tab and press "Power." Beside "Turn off Monitor," choose a time amount from the drop-down list and press "Apply."

Screen Goes Blank

Ive seen this on other monitors. Look for a 1 and 2. Some monitors do NOT auto detect a signal, and this one might not. Look for a way to set the monitor from Digital input to VGA input. Try that and see.

Dell 17" monitor is not turning on.

1. Check the cable with the blue connector. Make sure it's plugged well to the back of the computer.

2. CHeck the light on the CPU's power button. If it's solid green, press the numlock key on the keyboard. Tell me, if the numlock light on the keyboard turned off or on. You can press it again if you didnt catch anything.

3. If there are no lights on the keyboard or the computer when you turn it on, the computer is the problem.

Just post here what lights are present or what happens when you press the numlock key.

Monitor will not turn off

The power switch on an LCD monitor is only a power saver, it does not switch it off completely. There is no reason why you cannot use the mains switch to turn the monitor on and off - assuming that it was on in the first place!

Most LCD monitors have a 3 year warrantly - at least they do in the UK. Why not contact Dell and get them to replace it for you. You should do this before the 3 years are up.

Cheers
