My Kenmore Elite Dishwasher runs through the full cycle when when it's all done, the lower rack dishes are scummy. I am using a rinse aid but that doesn't help.

1) It could be a gasket somewhere starting to break down. Check your door seal.
2) Food particles could have gotten caught somewhere in the drain hose, or something, and then turned black with mold and bacteria, then when you wash, they get siphoned back into the dishwasher if the flap which composes the anti-siphon check valve on the drain hose is starting to stick open.
Try putting a cup of bleach in the top rack and run a complete cycle with no other dishes in it. Then, load up some plastic dishes and wash them as normal. See if that helps. If it does, replace your check valve.
Also, insure that your drain hose is looped up above the bottom of your sink to prevent debris from your garbage disposal backing up into your dishwasher.
Calcium and magnesium is present in a great number of homes today regardless of hardness or softness of the water. Water containing dissolved carbonates of calcium and magnesium can lower the effectiveness of the detergents you use and leave deposits on the dishware and tub of the dishwasher. When these deposits dry they become what some call lime scale.
To remove these deposits there are a number of cleaners on the market today. I will list them in the order of my preference. You can find them near the dishwasher detergents. If you use them read the instructions on the label, but basically you can run a cycle with no dishes and the cleaner. Some of the cleaners like Lemi-Shine can be used with a full load of dishware after you clean the tub. This helps keep the tub clean and deposits off the dishes. If you want a home remedy that seems to work pretty good, put a cereal size bowl upright in the lower rack (no other dishes in the dishwasher) fill the bowl with vinegar and run a normal cycle. The vinegar will wash out and clean some of the deposits away. If residue is still around run a second cycle of the vinegar wash.
might wanna check the connections on the back of it and make sure nothing has broken behind it....also may wanna get a mop and some towels something tells me its throwing water out the back side of itself while its running
#1 check the upper spinner arm to see if it is clogged with particles if it is, clean the holes outi f they get clogged the arm-sprayer will not clean the upper rack
#2 if it is not clogged got to your local Grc.chain and purchase a bottle of dishwasher cleaner for about 8.00 follow all instructins on bottle make sure water is hot by running hot water tap closest to dishwasher.use it in an empty dishwasher. You will be amazed how clean your dishes will come out after the first wash
try c.l.r. to clean dishwasher check and clean lower and upper spray arms out, run no detergent you can also run vinegar in it as well about a cup full, let the machine start to run then stop dish washer for a few hours then restart see if this works for you use a short cycle.
The following suggestions will greatly enhance the ability of your dishwasher to clean all of the dishes thoroughly:
1. Rinse all of the food off of the dishes before you put them in the dishwasher.
2. Run the hot water into the sink until it is as hot as it gets before you start the dishwasher.
3. Do not pack the dishes into the dishwasher, just put in a reasonable number without crowding or stacking them on either shelf.
4. Pull the top shelf all the way out to be sure that the water connection at the rear of the top shelf is connected. Sometimes, this connector comes disconnected preventing the water from entering the top spray assembly.
THese things should make a huge difference.
Good luck with this and please rate my answer. Thanks. Joe
brittgee, there has been a number of service flashes on this model. One that has to do with the upper spray arm assy. Complaint is poor washability; gritty glasses, food redeposited on glasses, especially in the corners. They redesigned the upper spray arm to improve water spray to all corners of the upper rack. The new part number is 8269022. They also redesigned the third level spinner for more consistant rotation and better washability. This was also under a service flash. Part number.8193768. Other reasons for poor wash would be; low water temperature, rinse aid disp. not working, loading etc. Catriver...post back.
