Samsung ML-2010 won't feed paper

This is a step-by-step process for replacing the tire (roller). Thanks to dizzyzuma for helping me get the right part and get the procedure down.

1: You will need to manually shut off the printer in the middle of printing in order to release the tabs. Put in a few sheets of junk paper and print a few blank documents. You want to shut off the printer using the switch in the back when the roller is approximately in this position:



2: Hold the down the two side tabs that are locking the tire into place and press down on the tire with your finger. It should pop off relatively easily.



3: Turn the printer back on. The tire will rotate around to its starting position, but it will now be unlocked. Turn the prinSamsung ML-2010 won't feed paper - a19005f.jpgf.



4: Rotate the tire towards you and unhook the two bottoSamsung ML-2010 won't feed paper - 3f62dcd.jpgt should come off without much force.



5: Replace the old tire with the new tire.



6: Re-insert the tire onto one of the bottom hinges and rotate it around so that both of the bottom hinges (tabs) are in.



7: While holding the back of the metal bar with your fingers for leverage, press firmly with your thumb to snap the tire back into place.



8: Turn back on the print. You’re good to go.

Roller problems are endemic with the ML 2010. What worked for me was simply to clean the large rubber roller that is just above the paper in the centre of the bar at the end of the paper feed cavity with methylated spirits.

I found the info posted by CardiffDave most helpful. My problem was simply a broken rubber pick up. As CardiffDave explains, getting the plastic pick up housing off is a pain but not impossible. The trick for me was to print some test pages and look in the printer...wait until the that plastic pick up housing just BARELY starts to rotate and turn the printer off at the power switch. You will need ninja reflexes for this but after some practice runs you will get it. The idea is to create enough clearance to get the clips off from the top but not so much so that you can't get the tabs off from the bottom. Once you get it off and replace the rubber just push the rubber assembly back in. I panicked for a second and thought "How am I going to get the rubber to go around the bar?" The answer is you don't. The rubber ends up being more cam shaped. It's not a circle. Like I said, just push it in.

Another note, Samsung part # JC73-00211A has been superseded by part # JC73-300302A. This part # works. Buy it with confidence. As of 03-29-2010 I paid just under $20 for it including shipping from PartStore.com. For me it was worth it as I have sworn off wasteful inkjet printers and I have stocked up on toner for this Dell 1110 (same printer as the Samsung ML-2010). Good luck!

Original problem: Loud clicking noise. (a Samsung ML-2010 won't feed paper - 685433b.gifderneath)

I now understand the cause of my very loud, rattling sound. Each time a page is fed into the printer, the pickup roller makes a complete rotation. At each end of the rod through the paper roller is a cam. If I'm successful, I will upload a picture of the right one (looking into the printer). For each cam, there is a roller that must move down by a few milimeters so that the cam can reposition itself. In my case, one of the rollers is almost completely rigid, so that the cam is stopped a few degrees short of returning to its initial position. I have also posted what looks like a conspicuous asymmetry. The next two images are the LHS (nonrigid) and RHS (rigid) sides. It looks as if there is a piece missing on the side that is rigid. I think a thin plastic piece has fallen under the plate carrying the roller so that, on one side, it cannot depress. I also have a very funky solution. I simply removed one of the phillips-head screws on the back of the printer (on the side that is rigid). Now the plate with the roller seems to have just enough flexibility to allow the cam to reposition.

I removed the white cam roller with the black rubber band and then rotated it so that new rubber was showing, then wrapped a rubber band around the whole cam and also added some folded up paper under the rubber and around the white cam. Works like new. Also, to remove, just switch it off, un-clip the top half, then switch it back on and it makes a real load clicking sound, quickly turn off again and you can remove it freely.

Flipping the rubber inside like SillyRabit said solved my issue, Acrimonious's directions (pix) helped alot, I had previoulsy used alcohol and coffee filters (no lint) to wipe dust off the offending part. I suggest trying to view the 'wheel' from the side to get an idea how to move the clips. Is there another place to get the replacement parts?

Have been unable to source a spare rubber pick up 'tyre' for my printer here in the UK. Our 'fix' has been to place a few strips of electrical insulated tape beneath the tyre to raise it up a little, and also to scratch it a little with fine sandpaper so that it grips a bit better. I also sand-papered the strip of plastic on the plate that lifts the paper up to the feed wheel as it felt a little too smooth and might very wel have been the cause of the printer picking up too many sheets at once.

Don't know how long the fix will last, mind. Hope the info helps someone else.

I just replace my JC73-00211A rubber pick up (pinter was purchased 3/06). For more details search this site for JC73-00211A. search the web to but one. , the plastic clip that holds the rubber in place is hard to get off. my trick was to turn on the power and wait until the shaft rotated 180 and turn off the power. cut the rubber off if it is not already off. there are 2 small latches on either side of the plastic clip. release them and slide the clip around and off. persistance. works great now, I think 2 years is about it on the rubber.

I have the exact same issue, only I have confirmed that my pickup rubber is in place.  I does not, however, catch the paper.
I viewed what was going on by leaving the front cover open and fooling the printer it to think it was closed by holding the lever down with a small stick.
The paper lifts, but does not get caught by the rubber. If I help it along, the paper does print.

While trying to inspect the rollers on my Samsung ml-2010 as per the photos above, I put it in my lap and tipped it back so as to get a better look inside and r-r-r-r-r! it suddenly was able to feed itself two pages and print the document I had been begging it to print. This might have been a fluke, but I thought it worth mentioning. Over the years, printers seem to get more and more sophisticated, but less and less reliable.

The only large black belt in the printer wraps around the pickup roller., possibly this has broken.
You can check by looking inside the printer towards the back. You will see a metal bar with a white plastic assembly. Wrapped partly around it should be a rubber belt that rotates on the shaft pulling the paper into the printer. If the belt is missing all you will see is the white plastic carrier.
The part you will require is JC73-00211A Pickup rubber.
