Its not the OS; its the touchpad.

You have to disable the touchpad and start using a regular mouse. When you're typing on a laptop even your hand hovering near the touchpad causes this stuff.

You can disable it in control panel. The minute u did this it will get stopped.
i am sure that this is going into your mind why did it not happen previously.
for your knowledge i should tell u that this generally happens with vista sometimes and is a common problem.
XP has an auto disable in the BIOS for this.

Hi. Try configuring your Touchpad by going to the control panel and click mice properties. click on Tapping Tab and put a checkmark on "Tap-off when typing".

My inspiron 1501 prints gt when you type g and hy when I type y. If I use the backspace the whole line disappears. I replaced the keyboard and updated all drivers I could find at Dell. Help.

garyjb12,
solution, replace your keypads for your laptop.
problem with the keyboard itself. it is an electronic fault on the keypads. replace it and it should be ok.

I have a problem with the keyboard on my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop. The key lock is not on but when I type numbers, I get letters as well. e.g. 1q 2w 3e 4r 5 6 7u 8i 9o 0p I also get numbers when I type...

Look if your Num Lock is on, then turn it off. Try also another keyboard, to see if the problem presists.
I think it's a very little thing, but i can't help you more unless i see it.

Good Luck :)

Inpiron 1501 keyboard working slow

Does the issue occur in Safe Mode (Press F8 at boot, select safe mode) If not then a program is likely conflicting, run a virus and spyware scan. If the issue does occur in safe mode, try adjusting keyboard settings in COntrol panel
