Hello, i'm Boris. I in possession of a 40 gigabyte Zen Touch that has a problem. Each time i connect the device to my PC, i am told that it malfunctioned and windows cannot recognise it. i had lost the CD package that came with it but i have downloaded all the software necessary for it to be used. I have upgrades of the firmware. The problem seems to be that the firmware was destroyed by my siblings.
How do i get the original firmware version ie version 1.01.03 installed so that i can use it on my PC?

Before preceding, goto control panel, add/remove programs (vista equivalent) select windows media player and uninstall note the response it gives you. If it is going to allow you to uninstall OR downgrade windows media player to version 9 then keep going. If not, then find another computer that you've never used the player on try upgrading firmware there, make SURE it's got windows media player 9 by downgrading it in add/remove programs.

Now for the fun stuff:

Sounds like the same problem I've resolved several times in the past on here.

1. Plug in the device.
2. Goto device manager in control panel and remove the device drivers.
3. Reboot if it asks you to, make sure to unplug the device.
4. Goto device manager again, remove the USB hubs.
5. Don't reboot.
6. Goto control panel, add remove software or equivalent for windows vista ultimate.
7. Select creative labs, and uninstall any and every zen related software.
8. Don't reboot.
9. Goto my computer, find the creative directory located on your main hard drive at \program files\creative. Deleted it completely.
10. Select windows media player select uninstall, or downgrade accordingly.
11. Make sure your zen touch is not plugged in and reboot your system.
12. After system loads, plug in the device and run the firmware software again.

And if you wish, reinstall windows media player 10 and the creative software (which you don't need at all with vista) all the other drivers should reinstall themselves.

BTW it's a hell of alot easier to just use another CPU if you have access to one, I've done it both ways and it saves alot of time.

I dont know if it's windows media player 10 or 9 that it needs to be downgraded to. Just downgrade it if it allows you too. I have 11 and I downgraded it to 10 and it worked.

So it should work by downgrading WMP11 to 10.

Problem solved: this is what i did, on my existing pc i have a fully updated xp with sp2, no creative software installed, i upgraded wmp9 to wmp10, reboot the machine, connected my zen, it appeared in the device manager. in the devicemanager i went to the properties of the zen and had the drivers updated, then i started ZenTouch_PCFW_L4_1_01_03,exe, got the message that i should connect my zen, closed, started ZenTouchP4S_PCFW_LB_2_11_01.exe and bingo!! the message appeared that i already had this firmware installed, according to my zen (stuck in recovery) i had firmware 0.0.10, updated the firmware anyway and it worked, no need to throw my zen in the wastebin.

Hi there,
Can I ask a couple more questions please.
I'm running XP SP2. I have a Zen Touch, model DAP-HD0014. Firmware version is 1.01.03. Application software I have installed on the laptop is 3.20.21 (I also have the .exe for 5.10.38 which I uninstalled 'cos this didn't recognise the device).
So, my questions are:
1. Do I need to upgrade the firmware on the Zen Touch ?
2. Ditto for the driver on the machine ?
3. Ditto for the application itself ?
BTW- I have upgraded to WMP v10 as an aside
Please help! Am getting very srustrated at this stage
Cheers
C

SOURCE: creative zen

After three months of trying and trying in many computers, following many, many procedures found all over the Internet, my Creative Nomad has accepted the firmware and has borned again.
What I did?
1. Connected the Nomad on a computer with Windows XP and Windows Media Player 9, that never has been touched by a creaive device.
It recognizes the device but can´t find any update to the drivers,
2. Updated Windows Media Player 9 to Windows Media Player 10,
3. Restart the computer
4. Connect the Nomad and the computer recognizes the device and autamtically search and found updated MPT drivers.
5. Run the firmware update program "ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_10_03 (Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware 2.10.03)"
6. Finally the magic button always has been disabled was enabled so start reloading firmware.
And now the Nomad is working in windows vista.

The difference between the computer where the firmware works and the others is that this has never had media player 10 or 11 and never has installed creative drivers.
Hope this can be useful to smoeone, somewhere, sometime.....

SOURCE: Creative Zen Touch firmware problem

I had the same issue after trying to update firmware the PC kept saying the player was not connected, I have copied the reply below from Creative Customer Services on how I fixed this problem. I was lucky that I have access to an old PC that had WMP 10 so I didn't need to mess with my own PC. However, there was some messing about with the instructions to get the fix. My main tip is follow the instructions below, then go to device manager and uninstall the Zen from your USB list, it will probably be flagged with a yellow triangle. Remove it totally and then reinstall the Zen driver, this worked for me after I had taken the steps listed here;

1. Please uninstall all Creative software & Drivers.
2. If WMP 11 is installed, remove it including Media Player 11 runtime
(may require a reboot for each thing).
Go to add/remove programs and uninstall these two files (this will put
your pc back to wmp10). http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=16737

Related topic is further explained on this page http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/readme.aspx#DevicenotrecognizedafterinstallingWindowsMediaPlay
3. Download the following files from the website and save them to a
unique folder.
http://support.creative.com/welcome.aspx
You may have to select your own Product > Choose your Specific Model>
then Double Click.
Down below; please ensure that your Operating System selected is Windows XP.

Driver : Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version 1.30.03
Firmware: Creative Zen Touch PlaysForSure Firmware 2.11.01
You may want to click the Show Details button on the right side for
additional information.

4. Re-install the Zen Driver and reboot the PC and then connect the
player.
5. Make sure the firmware update is ready,
Run the program but don't click the language bit yet), leave the mouse
hovering over your language selection.
6. On the Zen - select the option "reload OS"
7. As soon as it flashes up "reload new firmware now via USB" click the
language button on the firmware.
8. Now PC should find it and allow you to re-load the firmware. (it may
take a few attempts)
9. Once complete, click close and restart the pc. Everything should now
be fine.
10. If installation is successful, you can re-install your WMP11 and
everything should be okay this time.

Good luck

Creative zen touch firmware problem

Sorry I am making a restatement...I realized my firmware was still 1.0. and tht it coudnt b upgraded to 2.x.xx till media player 10 was installed and media player 11 removed.before you do anything......back up all music on your zen touch because the upgrade to 2.0.xx deletes everything on your mp3 player and sometimes the player wont be readable after uninstalling .......then you can do an auto update: http://support.creative.com/downloads/welcome.aspx?nDriverType=1#Manualselection from the manual downloads page, I did.. and there was numerous updates tht popped up after removing windows 11 media player and the other item that was required in the instructions located here: http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=16737 .
Hope this clears the air about upgrading the firmware to 2.0 so tht windows 7 can read your zen touch, sleek or other non supported creative-Tm hardware. I havnt finished upgrading yet because I Had so much on it that its taking me over 8 hours now just to sync my music with my computer so tht I wont lose the data when upgrading to firmware 2.x.xx

Upgrade firmware problem zen touch 20 gB

I contacted Creative about a similar problem with mine when I went onto Vista and they advised that I had to update the firmware. The downside they stated was that I would probably lose all my songs. The only way round this is to save them all to a non vista computer and then upgrade and hope you can put them back onto your player. Here is the info they sent me. Not sure if it works as I never got round to it.

I understand that you cannot get the software to work in your Windows
Vista.
With regards to your enquiry, there are two things that you need to
consider, player and the software.

For a proper set up, you should update the player with an MTP Firmware
version using a PC with Windows XP installed.
What is the MTP Firmware?
http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/kb/article.asp?l=3&sid=6773

Ensure that computer has both Service Pack 2 and Windows Media Player
10.
a. Verify SP version, click+Start+Run+type Winver.

Next, update the driver first, once it has been installed, connect the
player then click the MTP firmware program.

Proceed to this link and download the following files needed.
http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/
just click on the link above then type the filename of the
driver version : JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US_2_01_00.EXE
firmware version : ZenTouchP4S_PCFW_LB_2_11_01.exe
at the search box provided.
download and save them to your folder. Click the program and follow
further instructions during the installation.

For instruction on updating the firmware, please use the link below and
select ZENTouch
http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/kb/article.asp?l=3&sid=4789

As for the software, you maybe required to download and install the
following updates below:
Please view important notes written at the website for further
information.

Proceed to this link http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/
then type the filenames: CMS5_PCAPP_LB_5_10_38.exe

CMS5_MTP_PCAPP_LB_5_00_36.exe

at the search box provided. Ensure device is attached before you start
the installation.

Sorry it's so long winded and I hope it works.

Creative zen mp3 help please

You will need to put the Zen into recovery mode and erase the firmware, then reload the firmware. Follow these steps:

To Erase the Firmware:

1. Get a paperclip and straighten it out.

2. Hold down the Play/Pause button, and put the paperclip through the reset hole. Release the paperclip while continuing to press the Play/Pause button until you see the screen change.

3. Select "Reload Firmware."

To Load the new Firmware:

Go to www.Creative.com/support --> downloads. Click through the navigation and download the latest Zen Touch firmware. Reboot your computer, then plug in your Zen via USB cable. Double-click the firmware icon and then click upgrade.

Creative ZEN MICRO

OK to everyone who messed up the firmware of Zen Micro and run vista, u r all idiots, including me. my zen was stuck in recovery mode and recovery menu as everyone experienced and tried to upgrade the firmware via the firmware updater that didnt work, right? ok through research and time i came to realize that what was causing the updater to fail (...please connect your media player...) is windows media player 11 (ELEVEN !!) zen update firmware will work only with windows media player 10 (TEN !!) installed. y? i dont know and i dont care anymore now that my micro is fixed up and running with the latest released firmware.
method 1:
u can find smne with xp and wmp10 (rare) install drivers and run the updater or
method 2:
u can DIY and since it is impossible to uninstall wmp11 i did the unthinkable, no no not format and install xp to use wmp10 no no.

instead i used a program called VIRTUAL MACHINE WORKSTATION 6.5 (for links keep confidential suppling ur email to me) this program will allow u to install and run several operating systems at a time regardless of your current hardware, it will run as an application in vista O/S. so i installed xp pro (on vmware 6.5) that i had handy somewhere, and then the drivers from the creative disc. then i run the firmware updater and yes it recognises my zen for the first time and loads a brand new firmware. easy as that, zen reboots and main menu appears, what a joy.

so all i used was:
vmware 6.5
xp pro (wmp10)
creative disc
firmware updater by creative

installing operating systems on vmware is very easy and doesnt require restarts etc.. u can switch through vista and xp like a window application just like that.

hope this helps, zen micro is by far the ultimate mp3 player for its sound breathtaking performance and loudness, totally worth the trouble. this is 100% fixable

This means both systems contain a bug, or cookie. If the firmware you accessed isn't applying itself to the device, this means the system itself has been corrupted. Double check with your system configuration properties on each device, and tell me whats going on from there.
