My AV700 started to work very slowly when playing files and would often pause during play. I downloaded all of the files to an external hard drive and reformatted the drive. Then I defragged the files on the external hard drive. After reloaded some of the files from the external back on the Archos it worked like new again however after I got about 20gigs back onto the drive I started to get an error message. "can not copy file I/O device error" and no more files will load. The previously loaded files still work perfectly but I can't add anymore with out the error message.
Please help.
You get "can not copy file I/O device error" either when the files in the disk where you were coping from are faulty or when the disk where you are copying into has bad sectors etc.
Check first that files into external hdd had been copied properly, downloading into a pc , and eventually trying to open the files that had not been copied. If the files in external device are fine then there may be a problem with av700 drive and you may need to reformat it, or in some case to change it.
Check first if you can copy files picking them one by one, and that your av700 is not full.

Sorry I repost here:
You told me the formatting of av700 did not finalize well.
That is the reason why you got IO error! that means your av700 hd may be in need to be changed.
Best thing to do is trying format again, if you cannot format again you need to remove AV700 drive and change it.

Hi,
Offhand, I would suspect that the remaining files were somehow corrupted. Is it possible for you to verify those files using the external HD and a PC?
Either that or the format of the Archos AV700 was not that "clean" and would require a redo.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.
