I would generally not prefer using antivirus for mac because apple OS is considerably safer than windows OS. Still Sophos and Kaspersky are two best options for mac till date.

I keep getting problems sending viruses to PC people, which is hard when sending newsletters to printers, so I need (after 7 years!) an antivirus software, preferably free.
NB I took Norton Antivirus off as it kept clashing with Word ('98) extensions and making the system crash. I have an iMac G3 with 96mB built in memory and currently 97mb virtual memory.

Mac, like linux, does not often get viruses and anti-virus software would pretty much be useless. Virus developers don't target Mac or Linux OS'es because not enough people use them. To do so would be a waste of their time.

For the third time, someone or some bot has sent out emails to many people on my contact lists using my "from" email address. How can I prevent this?

Hi,

This sounds like you have a virus on the Mac. You may think that this is impossible because most virus programmers attack Window's based operating systems, this is not true.

About a year ago a trojan was found on an OS X operating system and was serious enough to prompt antivirus programmers to develop software for a Mac system. This mainly because of the popularity of Apple products which have now taken over Microsoft in the world market, so of course hackers and virus programmers alike are targeting Mac's and even iphone's.

What you need a antivirus program for the Mac OS X.

Click on the link below and download ClamXav for Mac and scan for ant issues.

I have a Mac 450Mhz Power PC G4 with OS X 10.4.11. and 1.75 GB SDRAM. It runs incredibly slow. We have downloaded many songs from Limewire. I just heard that MACs need antivirus and anti spyware...

Well, there are a variety of reasons that can consequently drag down the performance of your Mac. Meanwhile, there are certain ways through which you can considerably speed up your Mac machine. For example, you can reset the browser settings to regularly clear useless caches and history, get rid of all unwanted widgets from the dashboard through the Dashboard control panel, remove unnecessary applications, find out & delete those duplicated files, or if your Mac is running out of memory, try upgrading the system RAM to boost its performance etc. However, if you prefer a more efficient way to speed up your Mac, try the following all-in-one Mac speedup tool as it can help resolve all issues in just a few clicks.

How can I get a viruses on a Mac if I do not have Windows installed and what protection should I get if needed? I use Tiger 10.4

There are several antivirus for the Mac, but I don't know someone who knows someone that uses one. Viruses on the Mac are rare, because there don't exist "autoplay", neither "autoexec". All processes are "permission based", that is, the user must give permission to install software on the Mac.
