Problems with RC engine not running right!

Sounds like you need a professional carb cleaning and setting.. when a bike won't run unless the choke is on, its either the carbs need cleaning, or you have developed an air leak.. if the bike has been sitting for a length of time..its the carbs...once you get the carbs cleaned and set...you should be fine.. if it does nor correct the issue..please reply to me on here... thanks.. please rate as helpful...

carb is running tooo lean, remove carb and strip down, removing all internal jets, check float height setting and note number of turns mixture screw is set at.......completely clean internals in a large can of carb cleaner- available at wall mart- has a basket inside the metal container so you will not loose small parts while the carb is soaking in the mixture...leave for a day, the crean all parts and blow out with high pressure compressed air. and re-assemble, and refit.....please note, never use ethanol fuel in your motorcycle, I only use classic gas in all my vehicles...less problems

An engine needs three things in order to start and run; 1. Spark 2. Compression 3. Fuel. Sounds like you've got good spark if the engine starts, so it seems you may have a fuel problem. This could be several things, from a kinked fuel line or a bad gas cap, to a plugged or gummed carburetor. The carb is usually the issue if your machine has sat for any time with Ethanol Gas in it. The carb should be taken apart and thoroughly cleaned with a good carb cleaner (better left to a professional if you're not familiar). Your machine appears to have a Honda engine on it and I have had problems with stuck valves on them. The valve cover is right up front and if you prop the front of the machine up, can be removed without losing your oil. Make sure the valves are working properly and not sticking. One more possibility is that you may have struck something hard with the blade and knocked the timing out of whack (broken timing key underneath the flywheel. That's the best I can do without actually looking at your machine. Best of luck to you.

I have the GVC160 motor....same problems....just found this info (see link),...and it turned out that Honda used a NGK spark plug that was defective,....I couldn't believe that is all it was...after changing the carb (new),...adjusting valves....etc.. I just went down and bought a new spark plug.....and it runs great!!

BEFORE go thru all of the advice and look at most other Honda web info.....go and buy a brand new spark plug and start with that! It appears Honda used a NGK spark plug in the past that fails after some time....giving the syptoms of problems with the carb, sticky valve, etc. Do not try to clean and use the old spark plug!! ok you have to have the glo plug igniter for it and you only have to put your finger over the exaust for a sec or 2 as you turn over the eng then put the igniter on and start it if it is used it should be broke in

Nitro engines can be difficult to start and keep running unless they are in perfect tune. This take quite a bit of experience, even the experts have difficulties sometimes Go to http://www.radiocontrolzone.com/ for web help. Or go to your local hobby shop and ask for help.

I have a gilera RC 600 which has the same engine as the nordwest, the problem could be the carb needs to be stripped and cleaned and replace the foam air filter with a paper one. The GS bikes do have a fuel pump that is part of the petcock. This pump runs off of a vacuum line from the carbs. The carb bank is also made to run with the air-box in place. It will also not run right without the stock exhaust system in place. The engine would have to be re-jetted to properly run with a different exhaust system.
The engine will never run right without the air-box unless you get a vacuum gauge and properly tune the carb bank without it. Anyway, to fix your fuel pump problem, you may be able to install just the pump somehow, in between your tank and carburetor assembly.
You'll have to change several things to make this engine work as a go cart engine and be dependable.
