My Miele Solution HEPA 5000 vacuum cleanr gives off a burning smell but will continue to run with a varying motor tone. I have not run it for more than a minute like this. I have reviewed responses to similar problems but cannot figure out how to access the motor. Can anyone advise?

Check both the bag and the HEPA filter behind the bag, torwards the motor. The HEPA filter could be clogged. Love these units but it takes clear attention to multiple filters.

Could be a problem with the cord. There also is a circuit board by the motor that could be the problem. Did you drop something in the hose to see if it comes out the other end? Because you could have a clog. Or just unhook the hose and see if it runs that way.

Is there a valve on the handle, near the tube or right on top by the switch that you can move to allow for less suction?

Miele vaccum cleaner wont run

If dirt or other debris collect around the armature of the motor the stator will no longer communicate and turn. Usually the brushes wear down and need replacement also. Once you replace the brushes and clean the interior of the motor housing, the motor should start up again. AS long as there is no smell, the motor parts are still in tact. You will also need to replace the belt from the motor spindle to the brush.

My Miele Hepa 5281 stopped working for no apparent reason. No burning smell etc. I've replaced the fuse on the plug but it's still not working. Any suggestions on what could be wrong a

Could be a break in the mains lead. Usually where it enters the machine and gets stressed. Some motors have a thermal cut out or thermal fuse fitted to them. If the motor overheats it breaks the circuit. Some of them reset when they cool down, some are a one shot device, when it blows it has to be replaced. Could also be faulty brushes on the motor not making proper contact because the are sticking or worn.

My miele, is 6yrs old , no problems in past, new bag and filter, after using for roughly 10 mins, i can smell a strong burning smell, any suggestions how to fix this please , regards zoe

Hi Zoe,
The strong burning smell is almost always an indicator of a motor being burnt out. I have made a Miele repair video but am not sure which model you have so it may not be exactly what you need.

Miele Solution 5281 motor problem - can it be fixed?

You cant repair the motor but it is not too hard to replace the motor. I have made a video showing how to replace the motor on a miele S5311 which is a very similar machine. The part number for the Miele S5281 motor is 9271290

Does not vacuum effectively. It smells like it is burning. I have only had this one year and hardly use it. When I brought it to a local vacuum repair place, he wanted to sell me another one, and, of...

The burning smell may be the motor that's on its way out. Vacuuming with a blocked pipe or sucking up liquids may cause the motor to burn prematurely. The motors arent very expensive, but on the small vacuum cleaners it is sometimes more cost effective to go for a cheap second hand vacuum than to fix it. Depends on if the guy that fixed it is trustworthy, but i can guarantee you the secondhand machine will not have a lifelong guarantee on it. ask for prices on the motor and decide which you can afford.

Bosch hepa 2000w vacuum - burning smell coming from appliance

I it is an electrical smell, then you have a bad motor, if a rubber smell, you may have a bad belt and/or brush roll.
