You can use either USB or network connections. Easiest would be USB. It should automatically install the drivers but you can download an hp driver direct from hp.com
The apparent solution is to install the driver found at http://www.jvp-com.biz/drivers/pl2303hx.zip. I also tried a different port, COM4. This seemed to solve the Code 31 error received when using COM3.
There is a VERY good chance that your USB HSPA Modem is not compatible/complient with Microsoft Vista. There are very few older parts on the market that are compatible.
You can also go to the manufacture web site of the HSPS modem and see if there are any Vista Drivers. If not, then you are out of luck.
you will have a very hard time finding drivers for xp. dell will not support and dell does not have drivers for xp for your system. try vista sp1. i have no problems with my 1530
I'm not saying this will solve all problems, but it solved it for me. I am running Vista and got this to work following someone's instructions from another forum.
The slot in the enclosure that you plug the hard drive into has one set of holes fewer than the hard drive has pins. This means you can plug the hard drive in two ways "left" and "right" if you will. I had to plug my hard drive in so that the unused pins were farthest from the power cable that plugs into the hard drive.
Incidentally this made the screw holes line up better, too.
