Refridgerator does not get cool enough

We have just aquired an older (maybe 25 yrs?) Sub Zero in excellent condition. The bottom freezer works well and the compressors and fans all operate, but the upper fridge part does not cool enough ... will get to about 50 degrees. We are from a small community and can't find anyone who has worked on one before and they seem a little intimidated!

the evaporator coil inside the freezer compartment is iced over and can't transfer cold air in thes condition, remove panel inside freezer on back side of freezer compartment and thaw it out with a hair dryer, then check the defrost heating element for continuity,if its open replace it,if its good, ,check the defrost control that powers the defrost heater

You probably have a leak in the evaporator and there is not enough refrigerant left to cool properly. Sub Zero has a 12 year warranty so You may want to replace the unit. You need to call a servicer to check it out.

Left door open on Sub zero model 650

It went into self protection mode. Just leave it closed and when the compressor cools down enough, it will start. Once the ref starts to cool, the lights and such will come back on.

All of this assumes that no failure was caused by the long run times when the door was open
