I have a standard f brand hx440 fm transceiver hand held radio. it has previously set channels. I do not have a manual to see how to find the frequency of these channels so i can match other radio users while atving. Is there a way to set the channels, find a manual or identify which channels they are on?

Go to http://www.batlabs.com/gp68.html the manuals here should get you going. if not find someone with a frequency counter. this is alot easier than getting software for the radio.
