Is third time a charm. Again several years ago I bought a Samsung DVD-VHS recorder/player as a back up unit @ Best Buys. We let our kids just recently (60 & 44) use it here in our home when they moved back from Dallas retiring from AA. I just bought them a DVD player only and was going to set up the Samsung unit to record our several hundred VHS tapes on to DVD's. The instruction Manual and the quick connect instructions show a totally different unit than our unit. The manual says (DVD-VR357) the model # on the back of our unit says DVD V1000 and they do not look anywhere near the same. Will our unit record VHS>DVD or just vice-versa and how do I download a instruction manual for this new unit.

I know I'm adding to your problem, I tried for first time ay a DVD (4 different ones 3 brand new) and they either tried to start and then stopped or showed (no disc). VHS works fine. This is Samsung DVD V1000. We purchased it in 2007 at Best Buys in Mt Juliet TN as a reserve. We thought we had bought a DVD>VHS & VHS>DVD. Our Ins Man shows it was suppose to a DVD-VR357 as does our purchase ticket with a 4 yr extended warranty, but the plate on the back says its a DVD V1000. I think some how our unit was defective and was returned to the store and they were given a new 357 without realizing it was not a 357. Someone gave them a new unit without checking and put our unit back in the 357 box out checking. It has to be something like this. I can't even send this unit in under warranty as its not the unit the extended warranty covers. Any idea as what might be wrong and what I can do about it. Thanks again Bob & Karen Bruner, Hermitage TN

Here is the owner's manual for your DVD machine. This is a VHS recorder but not a DVD recorder. To record VHS tapes to DVDs, you will need a DVD recorder.
You will plug the yellow video out connector on the VHS to the yellow 'Video in' connector on the DVD Recorder. Do the same for the red and white audio connections, out on the VHS, IN on the DVD Recorder. Connect your TV to the DVD recorder so you can see the picture you are recording.

Testimonial: "Thank you for you help, I thought we bought a recorder both ways but aparently we didn't. If we can get the manual I will be eternally grateful. "

You are describing a problem with the DVD Laser. I suggest you try and get the extended warranty to cover the repair. You have time left.

Samsung DVD-V3650 Combo Player ejects most videotapes without playing them

You can only compensate for minor scratches. As for the vcr side the rollers could be dirty or the brake worn out. The tensioner may be too sensitive as well. Basically the mechanism probably needs servicing.

How do i go about transfering vhs-c video from an

You have several options. But important one to understand is the limitations of a PIII computer like Armada e500. You may not have enough grunt to convert stuff, even after buying the necessary video capture devices which work on USB.

Also I am assuming you either have the jvc camcorder still available or atleast have a VHS-C to VHS adapter to play the tapes on a standard VHS tape player.

Unless you are having a lot tapes and need editing while converting, your better bet might be to go to one of the shops that convert these tapes on to DVD or a suitable flash drive which might work out cheaper and quicker.

The last time I did this thing (quality of my VHS-C tapes was bad) I bought a Samsung combined VHS Video / DVD recorder and used the dubbing feature to burn DVDs. Cost me about $150 a year ago. I was able to do some editing on the way as I was connected to the TV screen as well. Saved me the hassles of dealling with the PC type video capture devices and software.

Recording from VHS to DVD

It is only a DVD player, you can't record with it. You can only record on VHS tape.

How do I record my vhs onto the dvd?

How about a USER MANUAL instead :D

Please note this unit is NOT a DVD recorder. It only has a DVD ROM drive to play DVDs - not to record to them.

Need code for Viore TV to program LG RC897T DVD/VHS Recorder

I believe Viore is the same as Samsung. I only noticed this by accident as I bought a Viore TV and my friend bought a Samsung and I noticed both remotes were identical. I tried the Samsung codes and the remote worked. Good luck! Kevin

Copying vhs to dvd using samsung vr357 ??

I do not think you would have to worry about a way to disable the copy protection that is on the vhs tapes. you are not going to record over them. You are just going to transfer information to the dvd side. jh

NTSC to PAL

You have to buy first a VHS player that can play NTSC, might not be available locally in Ireland so you have to probably buy online (US). The DVD recorder is fairly comnon nowadays and all of them are capable of recording and playing NTSC and PAL. You can then connect the AV out of VHS player to the AV In of the recorder. Or you can use a VHS-DVD combi. You can google in UK, here is an example: Toshiba RD-XV45, according to the specs, it can play NTSC on the VHS and you can record to DVD on any format that yoou want You can go to this link to view other product: http://audiovisual.kelkoo.co.uk/b/a/sbs/100304323/16875665.html My father died of cancer 6 years ago and I am also transferring the Hi-8 videos to digital format using PC.
