Hi, I just purchased a 1G Micro SD Card and inserted in my Win XP Pro PC which has a card reader. However, I was able to copy 108 song and then it just stopped. The error that Im getting is the following:
"The directory or file can't be created". According to the package I should be able to save 250 songs MP3. I really need your help in figuring this out.

Did you place the MP3 songs in the Root directory of the SD card, or create separate folders for them?
The Root directory will only hold so many files or directory names before being "full". More files can be saved in subfolders. My personal preference is to sort songs into individual album folders, which are in turn saved in individual artist folders. The music collection stays organized, and the number of files which can be saved, is limited mostly by the file size.
I like to create such folders first on the PC hard drive; then create M3U playlists for each album using WinAmp. I save each playlist in the respective Artist folder.
When I want to add songs to an SD Card (or my other Portable player), I simply copy the .M3U and Album folder over to the matching artist folder on the SD card.

My recent personal research to resolve a MicroSDHC card compatibility problem, suggests that SD cards should not be reformatted, particularly by an operating system format, such as is native to Windows (XP).
I have a 4 GB Class 4 Kingston MicroSDHC card which only worked in my Sprint Muziq phone for a short time after the phone was powered up. After the phone was on for 10+ minutes the card was unreadable. It would work fine again for a short time after the phone was "rebooted".
It turns out that my FAT32 reformat of the card using Windows XP was the culprit.
I found a Panasonic SD Card formatting utility which resolved the problem completely. I simply copied all folders & files off of the card, reformatted the card again via the Panasonic utility, and copied my files back on. I have had no further problems with the 4GB MicroSD card in my Sprint Muziq phone.

If you formatted the card first, you should have had a true value of the Size.
Even a true 1 Gig card, only has a capacity of 960mb.
As the card has to allow for a valid boot-block to be written to it.
This is so the read/write device, can recognise the drive/cards format i.e FAT/FAT 32 et,c.
I,d suggest that you have a 512mb card, that has a 1 gig sticker on it.
The chinese have a way of doing this with MP4 Players. they sell them as 4 gig, when you format them, they,re actually 1 gig or smaller sometimes.
I,d suggest backing up yhe card, and formatting it, to see it,s true size. And that your also using the correct Format.

If it,s formatted on FAT/FAT32 should be fine.
I,ve just looked on the Internet, a 1 gig SD Memory Card holds about 190 Songs.

i noticed that if you use wma format it,s 250 songs.
operhaps they,ve got a little confused with the formats.
You can get more wma files on there, if you scan the net you need an MP3 To WMA converter program, this way you,ll double the capacity of the Songs to 200-250.
Alternatively is to get a 2-4 gig SD card.
Cheap On e-bay from hong-kong/China.
Probably about 20 bucks with shipping.

i was quite surprised about the mp3-wma thing too.
i thought mp3 was the best music compression available.
apparently wma has twice the compression rate of mp3.
if you click on the link, i put on here. you have a chart stating holding capacitys for the cards. And the highest volume acheivable.
As for the Phone, it will probably only recognise 69 songs. as standard. the best thing is to buy another 1 gig and use as a secondary card, or compress future songs to wma. If your looking to buy future micro-sd cards.
I,d suggest a company in China ( excell ) you,ll find them on the web. may take 2 weeks to get your cards, but great and honest reliable seller. have fun buddy.

Thanks MIke for your prompt response. Before I copied all 108 I didnt format the card. Thought I didnt have to. However, I brought it to work to check and see if my IT guy knew what the problem was. One of his suggestions was to format the card in NTFS not FAT. However, you did say that to check FAT and FAT32. I know this should be easy but it has been a nightmare.
All I want is to save the songs so that I can listen to them on my cell phone. How hard could this be right?
The Card has 967 free space and its formatted in FAT32
MIke.....Thanks.....So I guess it doesnt matter if its FAT / FAT32. However, does it matter if it is a Micro SD Card vs a SD Card? If thats the case then why would the package say up to 250 songs mp3?

Well I saved 96 songs but when I put my micro card in my phone only 69 songs show up . In other words I lost about 27 of them.
Seems strange but oh well. Mike , I thought mp3 were more compressed than wma? You would think that you could save more mp3 than WMA right?
Oh well I guess 69 is better than nothing.
But If I paid 24.00 for this 1 G then it should at least give me 150.

Thanks Mike......I was really blown away as well on the WMA and MP3 thing as well. However, I was only able to download only 69 for my cell. Also I have noticed the same thing happening with the PNY 2G flash stick memory card. It will only hold 108 songs.
Who understands all this technology? If Im paying money for these memory cards and sticks you would think you can get as much for your money but I guess that isnt how its working out.

Well after just 67 songs being recognized by my Samsung Blast, I gave up. I'm not one to persist on trying to fix what I don't know about.
Tango thanks for your suggestion, but I don't have the patience to go through all that. There are already file folders on my card such as music, images,sounds etc.
All the music was saved individually in the music folder, however I'm able to save more songs outside of those folders. Also I'm able to add images to my images folder. Who really needs 250 songs right? So I will keep what I'm able to hold for now.
There is another question, I was looking at a 4GB SDHC Micro Card, can I use this card in the Insignia MP3 Video player or not? I found one for $25.00 and thought I would get a couple of them for my nephews whom I purchased MP3 Players during Christmas.

I have tried to put them on as WMA format and everything I can get pictures but I can't get music. I put the microsd card in my phone and fromatted it but it still won't work.
