Mostly they only suggest charging it for extended periods of time the first time you charge it because it comes dead after that the lighter port in your vehicle should be giving off way more than needed to keep the lil guy running i have used a tom tom for years now and have never had a problem with excessive drain on my electrical system

Testimonial: "I also have a question on mounting on your windshield. How is it done???I'm going out to my car nd try to figure it out."

Make your Lithium Laptop Battery last longer.

Hello folks,

Although I usually offer advice on backing up files or recovering them, I have been asked a lot lately how my 3 year old laptop still runs 1:45mins on a standard battery when many peoples 1-2 year old laptops can barely last an hour.

Simply put, most people do one of two things wrong. Both are common misconceptions and easy to remedy. First I've heard countless people tell me they pop the battery out of their laptop and toss it in the desk drawer until needed, often months. Second I have been told by more people than I can count that they leave their laptop plugged in 24/7 for most of the year.

Bottom line, although popping it out and leaving it in the drawer is less harmful to it's lifespan, both ideas are wrong.

The shelf life of most unused lithium batteries is shorter when unused than ones being used properly. The lifespan of a battery that is constantly being trickle charged is even shorter.

Most batteries in modern laptops are 4-6 cells, designed to give about 2 hours of charge and should last 3-5 years with charge life starting to degrade in the third year.

A "stored battery" has only 3 years of shelf life due to extended times sitting discharged and one that is trickle charged 24/7 may burn out in as little as a year.

Many laptop manufacturers have taken measures to improve this but ultimately the best thing for your battery is to use it. If you currently run you laptop plugged in 24/7, unplug it every night after you shut it off, then when you start it in the morning, let it run an hour before plugging it back in. This will give the battery both down time and exercise.

If your battery is in a drawer somewhere for safe keeping, put it back in the laptop, run it down then charge it over night and run it down then recharge it one more time. Store it back in the drawer charged and repeat the cycle at least once a month.

These tips will help drastically improve you batteries performance over time. My 3 year old laptop only ever got 2 hours of battery life and still gets 1:45 with no power saving measures, give it a try.

I have a sterling diamond scooter. How can i use jump start to charge the battery? Is there any emergency portable charger to carry if i get stuck outside and there is no car or power.

It might be easier to carry a spare battery. I am not familiar with your unit. I do not understand how a jump start would work without an external power source.

How do I use a battery charger to charge my dead battery on a 2001 camaro

The red clamp on the charger goes to the + sign on the battery. The black goes to the -. I you want a deep charge(best) set the charger on 2 amps and run it for 8 to 12 hours. If you need to get the car started, set the charger on 225 amps for just a couple of minutes. Start the car while it is on..2 amps can charge forever. 20 amps for 30 minutes. 30 to 40 amps for 15 minutes. 225 amps for five minutes..DO NOT charge 20+ amps for hours. It will kill the battery

I need to know how to use my new laptop battery correctly.

The first time you charge the battery allow 12 to 16 hours, after that 2 to 4 hours or when battery is charged. If you go on battery frequently drain it right down before charging it, this will give the maxi-um performance and longevity.

If it needs to be charged for 2 hours will it run down your car battery???

You can safely plug it in overnight, if you wish so and if it is safe from burglary. It will not discharge your battery as these units takes only very little power.

LC 97 keeps losing power after about about 3 hour of

Drive over to Autozone or Oreillys and have them check the charging system while it is running. You also need to check for the "draw" of power used by the car. They may not have the gauges for that portion of the test.
One item that is silent and draws a lot of power is the rear window defroster. I don't know offhand if it is a dedicated fuse or if there are several items on the same fuse. You could try pulling the fuse for the rear window defroster.
Your air suspension can draw lots of power if the air compressor keeps running.

If you are running down a fully charged battery and all the power of an alternator, something is either glowing, or a fusible link is blown and the charge is not getting to the battery.

My Dell Inspiron 1520 seems to use a lot of battery power, even when the lid is closed, and nothing is running. Is there any way to save battery power, without going into standby mode, or turning off the...

How long does your battery usually last? If it lasts 2 hours or more, that's normal for a notebook computer. The standby mode and turning off of hard drives is what notebooks are designed to do to give you more battery life. If you have to have it on and available all the time without going into standy mode, you'll need to get used to charging it every couple of hours. If you want to get more battery life, try the following options:
1) have the display turned off when not in use (this setting can be changed where you set up your screensaver)
2) turn off the wireless function (if available) when not in use
3) have the computer go to standby mode after 10 or 15 minutes of inactivity.
4) lower the brightness of your display

All of the above assumes that you're getting a decent charge and can use the notebook unplugged for 2 hours or more. Naturally, over time, notebook batteries wear down and don't hold a charge as well as they once did. If your notebook is a few years old and you're only getting an hour or so on a full battery, then it is probably time to invest in a new battery. If your notebook is new and you are getting this short battery life, contact Dell for a replacement battery as yours may be defective.

One last thing about notebook batteries. They are designed to be charged up and run down. If you leave your computer plugged in to a/c power all the time while you are using your computer, this greatly speeds up the wearing down of the battery. Whenever possible, you should fully charge your battery and then run the battery down to 10% or less before plugging it back in. This ensures that you get the most battery life on a consistent basis.

Hope this help. Please take a moment to rate the solution. Thanks.
