Player freezes constantly, new problem

Recently, all of a sudden the player freezes while playing dvd's . Did not have this problem three weeks ago. Videos that played fine no longer play well. Some play fine with no problem (the newer stuff). What's wrong and how can i fix it?
Tried cleaning player with cleaner cd, but problem persists.

Have you tried buying a Memorex or Scotch 3-M Cd/Blu-Ray Player Cleaner disc? You are supposed to clean your CD/DVD/Blu-ray player every 10 hours of playing time or every 5 MOVIES!!!

I have a Samsung DVD-v5650 which has always worked great. A couple of days ago, it suddenly stopped playing dvd's. We purchased a new dvd and it will start to play, then it will get choppy and show...

That sounds like a classic case of DVD laser and spindle motor failure (traverse unit). The squares you mention are pixels, the picture pixelates and breaks up, then freezes (caused by voltage changes in the laser and the motor speed). Being as this is not a DVD recorder, it is probably not economical to repair. You can try carefully cleaning the laser assembly (tips on how to do this may be found elsewhere on FixYa or similar forums) and/or spindle hub. If that does not solve the issue, sadly, you would be reduced to just the VCR part (or you could purchase a new player since the cost of such would be cheaper than repairs to this - assuming parts were available).

Not the best news, but you can try the simple in-home cleaning of the unit first before taking any further action.

BD-P1600 will play DVD-R with no problems up untill the last chapter of a movie then the picture freezes up and wont finish playing. is there a solution? Updated firmware about 3 weeks ago.

Either the Laser needs to be cleaned or it needs to be replaced. To clean, purchase a DVD player cleaner that uses fluid. roughly 20.00 run it a couple times and test. If it works, great. If it doesn't, replace the unit. It's cheaper than the repair. Hope this helps

Philips HTS3565D dvd player, recent Paramount DVDs (Star Trek and Transformers 2) freeze during the Paramount DVD introduction at the exact same spot: as the stars are flying in toward the camera's view....

I have the same problem, though I don't recall which exact movies. They were all from Blockbuster. Sometimes they start to play and then halt at the end of track 1 and sometimes don't even make it tot he menu. The same movie will play on our portable dvd player. A Philips rep told me about 6 weeks ago it was a problem with a new security feature on some movies and to watch the website for a possible firmware upgrade to fix it. Now you can't even talk to someone at Philips so I don't know what to think. The "live chat" folks just want to tell you to take it to a repair shop - not much help there.

DVD player skips and freezes

you have a defective dvd player. if it is only 3 months old take it back in exchange or repair under warranty. it all depends whom you purchased the item from. you could try running a cleaning disk, but chances are the players needs to be repaired, or replaced. Don't be surprised, i've bougth several in the last couple of years, two i had to take back the same day and exchange them. All of these electronics are made so cheap, it takes two or three units to get one good one. Try to stay away from RCA, Panasonic, and LiteOn.

Ipod 4g non responsive

Its unlikley that it was caused by sweat particularly if it was in a case. You may want to check that it isn't a firmware issue by restting it (hold down menu and center buttons - WARNING: wipes memory). If that isn't helping send it in.

DVD Player freezes on some commercially produced DVDs

The microprocessor or memory componets on the player isnt functioning asits supposed too. This is rather troubling and there isnt any easy fixes possible.. My suggestion is seeing as its new return it and get a replacement. Chances are it will fail very soon.
