When we turned the console on, 3 of the 4 rings were red. Now when we turn the console on, it doesn't even light up at all.
We tried different outlets and even purchased a fan, but still nothing.
This soulution seems too extreeme for most novice users. I did this and it totally fixed my box. Dissassemble xbox 360 so you can see the dvd, and motherboard. Remove dvd by unhooking 2 wires from the back of it. Remove air ducts. Remove fans by lifting hard on the back of the metal case and unhook power wire from motherboard. With a small star screwdriver remove the start button circuit board. There are 3 screws. Remove the white plastic cover to find the 3rd screw. Pull start button board off of front of metal case. Carefully remove motherboard from metal case. Flip board over and carefully remove heatsink retiner clips with small flat bit screwdriver or small pair of needle nose pliers. Use a razor blade to clean off the bottom of the heat sinks. Carefully clean off the top of the cpu and graphics cpu chip with something plastic. I used a guitar pick. Go to your local car parts store and buy some spark plug boot grease. Cost $1.50. Generously put a glob of grease on top of graphic cpu and replace heat sink (short heat sink). Try not to push too hard on heatshink when putting X clip back on. You want as much silicone grease as possible between heatsink and chip. Do the same for the cpu (tall heat sink). Reassemble your xbox 360. Turn it on and YAY! It works!!! Tell your friends!
Ok the three red rings was lit to notify you that your board, cpu and gpu have experienced a significant source of heat. So much in fact you really should bring it to a repair shop. I see these at least 4-5 times a day your 360 needs to be disassembled and the heat sinks removed this will allow you access to the cpu and gpu both sides of the board need to be heated with a equal amount of heat to heat up the solder and reseat both chips.
