Hi, I have a Dell Latitude D830. The display was off. I can connect extrenal monitor for current work. Please advise if I need replace display or motherboard ? Thanks Alex

Before replacing anything verify that your laptops display type didn't get changed to VGA out only.
look at your function keys (usually top one or two rows ) and look for the key that has a pc/monitor icon. with the machine powered up and connected to the external monitor press the function (FN button lower left of keyboard) and the video/monitor button at the same time. most laptops have 3 settings:
laptop display only, external display only and laptop and external display. Press the FN/Display button at lease 3 times waiting 3-5 seconds between keystrokes. I have seen this many times where the FN/display button keys are hit inadvertently.
Typically if the motherboard or video card fail the external monitor would not work either.

I have a Wrist Blood Pressure monitor MF 81 that I would like to set the Date and time on it - I don't have a manual

Start with the unit turned off. Now hold the Power button on until it starts to blink zero (0) on the display. Wait until the display shows two zeros. Press and hold the Memory button until a two-digit number starts flashing at the bottom; this is the year setting. Press the Power button repeatedly until the year is correct. Now press the Memory button, and the month will start flashing at the top of the display. Press the Power button repeatedly until the month is correct, then press the Memory button. The day is now flashing. Set it with the Power button, then push Memory. The hour is now flashing, set it with the Power button (note that it is in 24-hour format, so 1 p.m. displays as 13). Press the Memory button to advance to the minutes, then use the Power button to set it. Finally, press the Memory button to turn the unit off. It is now ready for use.

My hp notebook dv2201ca power on by itself, but lc...

Hi, to isolate the issue perform the following.

Step 1: Hard Reset
To perform a hard reset, please follow the steps listed below:

1. Unplug the AC adapter from the notebook PC and remove from any port replicator or docking station.
2. Remove the battery from the notebook battery compartment.
3. Press and hold down the power button for about 20 seconds.
4. Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook PC.
5. Press the power button to turn the notebook PC back on.

Step 2 :External Monitor
1. Turn off the notebook.
2. Connect the monitor cable from the external monitor to the monitor port on the rear of the computer.
3. Connect the monitor to a power source and turn it on.
4. Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

At this time, please follow the instructions mentioned below for switching the display to the external monitor:

The notebook's video card supports three modes. Built-in screen only; external video only; and both on simultaneously (mirrored). If you're not seeing the image on the desired device(s), the notebook's video card is probably in another mode. Press FN + F4 to cycle through the display options: Notebook display, External monitor, both.

If you press FN + F4 once, the external monitor will display & there will be no Notebook LCD display.
If you press FN + F4 twice, the external monitor will display & there will be some shading on the Notebook LCD.
If you press FN + F4 thrice, both Notebook LCD & external monitor will display.

If the issue persists on the external monitor, then this could be due to defective video card on the notebook. However, if the display on the external monitor is fine, then the issue is with the LCD display panel of the notebook.

When I turn on My HP Laptop the system start booting and all of the lights on the laptop turned on but the screen doesn't display a thing it is always dark could anybody help me... Thanks in advance...

This could be due to presence of static charges or hardware malfunction of video card or defective LCD display screen of your notebook. To isolate this issue, perform the following:

HARD RESET

To perform a hard reset, please follow the steps listed below:

1. Unplug the AC adapter from the notebook PC and remove from any port replicator or docking station.
2. Remove the battery from the notebook battery compartment.
3. Press and hold down the power button for about 20 seconds.
4. Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook PC.
5. Press the power button to turn the notebook PC back on.

This will discharge the static charges from the notebook. Now check for the issue. If the issue persists then connect an external monitor to the notebook and check if it works fine. You can follow the steps listed below to connect an external monitor to the notebook.

1. Turn off the notebook.
2. Connect the monitor cable from the external monitor to the monitor port on the rear/side of the computer.

In either cases, the notebook requires a detailed onsite diagnosis by a service technician.

My monitor shuts down after one second.

Dell monitors automatically go into power-save mode after a preset amount of time when the computer is inactive. The Dell monitor will go completely black, instead of showing a screensaver. This doesn't mean that your Dell computermag-glass_10x10.gif has shut down. Instead, this allows your monitor to essentially turn off until it's needed again. You can change how long it is before the Dell monitor goes into power-save mode by changing your display settings.
  1. Step 1 Press any key on your keyboard or move your mouse. Either will turn off power-save mode. Alternately, you can press the power button on your Dell computer tower or laptop.
  2. Step 2 Press any key a second time if the monitor goes from power-save to stand-by mode. Stand-by mode allows the screensaver to appear.
  3. Step 3 Enter your user name and password into the login prompt if your computer requires a login. Press "Enter" to begin using your Dell computer.
  4. Step 4 Change the display settings on your Dell monitor to prevent your monitor from going into power-save mode prematurely. Right-click anywhere on your desktop and choose "Properties." Click the "Screensaver" tab and press "Power." Beside "Turn off Monitor," choose a time amount from the drop-down list and press "Apply."
