I get no power at all when i plug in my adapter. no lights at all i have a lenovo 3000 c200 model 892203u. I took it apart and there are no power surge marks and the adapter does not smell burnt. What can it be? the mother board or is it the power cable adapter in the laptop? the cables are not singed in the laptop. how can i do a thorough check inside my laptop
You may try to check the power cord first. If you have any 12V bulbs or anything around that you might be able to use to check the adapter. Sometimes if you have any old case fans lying around u might be able to use a couple jumper wires to check the adapter. The voltage would be a little higher, but if you don't leave it connected very long it shouldn't hurt the fan too much.
If that is not the problem, you might consider connecting the power adapter to the power jack in the laptop, and then try to use the jumper wires on the terminals where the power jack is connected to see if you are getting power in there. It could be a broken wire or jack. HOWEVER!!!! Be very careful not to short out the jumper wires u are using to check the traces.
I have heard that there are fuses soldered onto the board that are almost impossible to find, however, if u can chase the power traces on the motherboard you may be able to find the fuse. It will most likely look like a larger resistor or capacitor on the board.
Hope these ideas may give you a little more headway into finding the solution to your problem.
Thanks,
Ben
Check power adapter’s DC plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.
If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.
This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.
If the power adapter is OK and by wriggling the plug in thr laptop's power socket does not make the power LED flask then the power circuit on the motherboard is either faulty or there is a dry solder joint on components associated with the power circuit.
There are diagonostic boards that can determine motherboard faults, but motherboard are not readly repaired and replacement motherboard would be a more cost effective solution.
If the laptop is few years old then I suggest a new laptop would be my choice.
