The hard drive needs to be set as the first SCSI ID device boot device..
The hard drive needs to have the jumper set to SCSI ID 0, the CD and FDD can be set to SCSI ID 1 and SCSI ID 2. No SCSI devices can have the same SCSI ID number unless it is on a different SCS controller.
The SCSI driver is required to installed during the initial boot up for installation when additional drivers are asked .the new models dont come with a Floppy drive so an external floppy drive can be used .The detection of HDD s must be at the startup by the Bios os SCSI card.
Yes, that is the total amount of hard drive space. This server was built for speed not for storage.
The xSeries 220 server supports four SCSI hard disk drives. The server does not support IDE hard disk drives. Some models support hot-swap hard disk drives and other models support only non-hot-swap hard disk drives. Your server supports four 1-inch (26 mm) slim, 3.5-inch SCSI hard disk drives in the hard disk drive bays. You can install four non-hot-swap hard disk drives in the models that have the standard non-hot-swap drive cage. You can install three hot-swap hard disk drives and one on-hot-swap hard disk drive in the models that come with the hot-swap drive cage. Both the non-hot-swap and hot-swap drive cages hold a maximum of three hard disk drives.
The calculation at that time was 4 drives with 36.7GB storage. Even if you find the drives somewhere, they will be very pricy.

if you are using raid go into the perc hardware utlity as it boots, try formating the drive there.maybe this will work.If you are using the dell open manage software you can probably format it there in windows. If you are not using raid enter the scsi utlity and do a format there.
Good luck
Hi While running the windows 2003 setup (winnt.exe), it will ask for SASI driver, you have to add the scsi driver... then windows 2003 os will detect the HDD.. then it will install..
Hi, check if the drive is showing in the bios of the server, shut down the server, take out the power cable, press and hold the power button so as to realease flea power, open the server, and reseat the data cable at both ends and if there is another power cable available in the server swap it with the existing cable plugged into the scsi drive.
and now try to start your server. Further Queries are welcome
Hi there you have the insight diagnostic cd boot the server with it then when you boot be careful not to erase the server there you will find the offline diagnostics tool where you can select the HDD you want to diagnosis if the hdd fails it will alert in red color its that sinmple
There are many configuration settings, although i personally would hunt down an SCSI hard disk, many will fit from many other models just like IDE ones
hi..
my guess is no but since i haven't dealt with this type of server i'm going to suggest you go to hp.
if you just goto hp.com and search on live chat and a link will come up.. they should be able to help unless it's too old since i'm not sure what generation we are on now..
You can either do this in the BIOS or (easier) just run a Linux installer (such as Ubuntu) and it will offer to do it for you when it sees Windows-formatted partitions.
