Need a replacement case fan for Northgate desktop and have no idea what size.

no need to replace just remove the label sticker from the fan and remove the smaller lock from the fan shaft be care full its very typical to remove that lock just use 2 needle with one needle press and hold the lock with other lift up lock from the cut side lift up the lock and remove the fan from bushing just clean both bushing and fan shaft with any rust remover cleaner clean well after clean both just apply any kind of lubrication oil and re assemble the fan it will be free of noise.

1) How to measure the fan? Across the fan's shroud. (Surrounding Cage) Fan stood up, measure the Height, and Width.

2) Look at the label on the fan's center hub. Write the number down.

15mm is the Thickness of the fan shroud.

yes. it does need the driver. please download the driver for your network card and install it to your computer then test.

depending on the kind of sound from the fan, you need to make sure nothing is in the fan path, and dust free, if not replace fan., about your drive to spin up, assuming you are refering to the Hard drive, replace the drive, seem to me the noise is coming from the hard drive, which indicate that your drive is about to go bad, time to back up your datas

Is the upper fan in your power supply?

Your computer actually has 3 fans, one attached to the back of the case, one on the processor, and one in the power supply.

At any rate, fans are cheap. Go to Mwave.com, newegg.com, zipzoomfly.com, tigerdirect.com,.......you get the idea.

Measure your fan, preferably in mm or cm, and order several of the proper sizes and replace all three.

Since you have the XP licence key, try to get hold of an XP install CD and do a repair installation, using your own key when asked for it.

the best thing for you to do is take the side off your desktop pc and look at the motherboard make and serial number and also look at northbridge and southbridge chipsets (the square looking chips) and make a note of tyhe make also. When you have the details either post back or search yourself, as Northgate are only a pc builder and not a manufacturer.
