    The V2000 was working downstairs, turned it off, tried to hook it up upstairs but no luck. the charging indicator in the front flashes 3 times. the Power adapter has the appropriate 18V DC, but the laptop won't power up anymore...

    Compaq M2000 will not power up the power light will come on for a couple of seconds and then will not come back on for a few minutes then does the same thing.

    Compaq Presario M2000 will not power up. The power light will come on for a couple of seconds and then will not light back up till you wait a few minutes and try again then it does the samething all over.

    My Compaq presario v2000 wont power up any more and the battery wont charge. I had bought a new ac adapter when this first started happening and that worked but gradually is stopped working too. I think it is a problem with the socket where you plug in tha adapter. It is not longer receiving any power.

After you have verified that the solder is good around the DC Jack >>>>

Check MOSFET (Anachip 4407 or Fairchild 4435) near DC JACK
[replace the pair PNP/NPN]

Check MAXIM IC (MAX1999)

how to change the DC jack:
please reference the manual page 3-1, to disassemble all covers.
and replace the DC jack.

No power
start wit ha power reset, remove the battery, remove the ac adapter, hold the power button for 1 minute and then repalce the battery and ac adapter, if theres no go try it with just the ac adapter, sometimes the batteries short out. if all else fails its probably the mmobo and i suggest calling compaq for warranty support

Hve u tried a differnt adaptor , the adaptor might be blown too ,try replacing the adaptor , also check for the power cord if it has any kinks in it which may be interrupting the power supply , since the adaptor 18.5 v 3.5 a is the most common of all hp adaptors u should find one to try .

you can follow this

If you have a loose connection where you plug in the power on your laptop, or it works intermittently, you could have a bad dc jack. Symptoms
  • Move the power plug and the laptop loses connection
  • Broken or cracked dc jack
  • Laptop won't charge but worked on battery
  • Power LED and battery LED flicker when the adapter tip is moved
  • Battery won't charge
  • Sparks come out the back of the laptop
Why does this happen?
  • Flaw in manufacturer designs
  • Use of universal or non-original ac adapter
  • Lots of plugging and unplugging of the ac adapter
  • Tripping on or pulling the ac adapter cord
or you can check your dc amper in your adaptor

Compaq Presario v2000 having problems powering on
hi!

i'd say first try a known working ac adapter and if that Working AC adapter works and the system detects the battery well, then it could be the ac. If not then try to borrow a working battery to get your final conclusion. if the working battery still doesnt work properly, then it could be the system motherboard. If battery and ac adapter (working) are not available, then check the BIOS and see if it really doesnt detect the battery. try flashing the BIOS and still if that fails, then replace the battery.

AC charger for a presario v2000
use ebay, same thing but cheaper in prices... i got my presario v2000 ac power charger for 24.50 with shipping and handling.... took 3 days and it arrived unless u want to do overnight shipping which is like an extra 12 bucks which is good too... WELL WORTH IT EBAY IS THE PLACE... i think his name is "honestworks" or something like that buy it from him he has a one year warranty if any defects occur...

Compaq presario does not turn on
Your battery is dead. You need to get a new power adapter. The battery isn't charging. The AC adapter went south. If the laptop is under warranty, you can get one from Compaq. Or, what I would do is shop on the internet and order one. Whats the numbers on the ac adapter? I'll help you find one.
