Cause of speed control board burn marks

I have a 7 year old Frigidaire front load washer (GLTF1240AS0) which I heard a few popping sounds from recently and now the drum won't move/spin. Trying to go through the diagnostics I found taped to the inside it looks like the problem was the speed control unit. I took it out and noticed burn marks on the plastic and chips on the board (solder on caps/resistors.)

My question is should I replace the board ($200 CAD) or is it some other problem likely to just burn it out again? Is there a way to determine what caused the board to become fried?

Thank you.

Sounds like a common problem, the exact same thing (burn marks) happened to my board! I replaced it but now my washer will only agitate, never spin... i wonder if something else is broken too?

As an update to this, the replacement board was OK, but my connector pins were loose. Once good contact was made everything was good as new!

When the motor is bad can it cause the Motor Control Board to go bad also?

Good Morning Friend,

I understand that you want to know if the motor is bad in your Frigidaire Affinity washer, model# ATF7000E, can it cause the motor control board to go bad as well. Just because the motor is bad, does not mean that the motor control board is bad. It depends on what is going on with your appliance. I suggest contacting your local authorized technician for further assistance. They will be able to diagnose your washer and determine exactly what is going on. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Frigidaire front loading washer stopped at rinse cycle. 3 beeps

When in doubt check the easiest thing to check. The pump can cause a number of errors to come up. Since the unit stopped in rinse I would start but checking to make sure there is nothing obstructing the pump before going to the expensive parts.
