Hold orange spool containing string while twisting the black plastic cap in the center, counterclockwise. This retaining cap is loosely spring loaded, so watch for the spring falling out. Once this locking cap is removed, the spool pulls right off.

Troy Bilt string trimmer starts but dies when I try to give it gas to trim.

Try mixing up some fresh gas mixture if it is over 30 days old it is considered bad gas. Or the carburetor may need to be rebuilt.

Pull string for Weed Eater Featherlite Plus came out

If you have the starter spool out (the one the rope goes in)...Here is what to do. Take the starter spool and change the rope out putting it back exactly as it was. Leave the rope hanging. Hold the spool and set it down on the rewind spring. Turn the spool on the rewind spring until you feel it is tight enough. While turning, hold the rope in the little slot in the spool so it can go around without hanging up. Once it is tight, get the rope in line with the spool opening and SLOWLY let the rope rewind. Put on the handle and put the unit back together.Good luck...Lee

My troy-bilt TB425CS gas string trimmer gas lines have gone away. In replacing those lines how far into the tank do they go?

far enough so that you can reach through filler cap and pull the line out to attatch fuel filter.
then you can pull it back in and let it rest on the bottom of the tank

No directions on how to re-string the spool on my TB-720

On the bump mechanism, line up the two arrows, then unscrew the bump, this will release the spool, then you wind the two strings in the opposite directions, the arrow on the spool will tell you the direction to wind the string, replace spool, spring, bump feed, and you are good to go. I hope this has helped you.

Can not remove spool to replace string

If it's like my Ryobi, the alignment arrows are for feeding in string, not removing the spool. When aligned with the arrows, you should be able to insert two pieces of line into opposite sides of the housing. The ends of the line will come out of the spool next to a tiny hole. Put the end of each of the two lines into the holes, then pull the two lines from the outside. This will lock the ends of the line into the tiny holes in the housing. Now you can turn the housing by hand to wind the lines onto the spool. I think it will take about ten feet of line (on each side).

Alternatively, spin the bump stop out of the assembly. This holds the spool in, so when the bump stop is removed, the spool comes right out.

I hope this helps.

Describe string replacement Troy- Bilt TB5755SS

Cut two separate pieces of string, about 7 ft. each.

Stick the end of the line in the hole on the inside of spool.

Wind clockwise onto spool, putting the line that is closest to the ground on first.

Once you have winded this piece on, lock the last 4 inches of line through the slits on spool.

Repeat process for second piece of line, locking the last 4 inches in slot opposite the other locked in piece.

Put the spool on the trimmer, feeding the end of lines through either hole on trimmer.

Before you push the spool all the way on, pull the strings out of the locked position.

I have a Troy Bilt TBP6040 XP 4 cycle weed eater with the spring assist starting. The pull cord broke and I am trying to replace it but I can't seem to get the cord to go all the way back in. I need help....

I just had this same issue. I found out that you have to take the cord out of the handle then put the spool in. You then rotate the spool back in and align the spool with the spring and fish out the cord which will put a small amout of tension on it. You keep the tension on it and put the handle back on.
