are you trying to use satellite? if the screen is blue the t.v. is working it is the sat. box. Try to do a hard reset by holding button for 10 full seconds.
Yes, a Philips replacement remote should be an excellent choice for your Magnavox DVD player, since they are sister companies. I am using the inexpensive Philips URC US2-PH5DSS and it works well. Your Philips remote will come with a page with all manufacturer codes listed by the type of device. Or you can visit the Philips URC code lookup website at www.urc.philips.com.
The codes listed for Magnavox DVD players are:
0441, 0442, 0447, 0599, 0799, 0699, 0247, 0193, 0093, 0598
You'll have to try them one at a time to see which works best for your player's functions.
Get the updated version of the Arcsoft Media Converter from www.usasupport.philips.com. Even so, you will need to split the video into 15-minute chunks, and convert the smaller chunks. This player is really for shorter, YouTube-style videos.
Check if you have not accidentlychanged to progressive mode which can cause this proble.
Are you connected to TV using Composite video out?Try connecting using S-Video or DVd (component inputs).

grace0308, Many of the combo units have multiple video outputs and some, like the SVHS and RGB Component outputs, are for DVD only. Make sure that you are plugged into the proper video output. Play a tape and try them all.
