Please see this solution from Canon. It is recommended you check your manual for the proper procedure for clearing paper jams. Incorrectly removing jams could damage your printer. Trust the following helps resolve your current issue.

If you do not have a manual it can be downloaded from here:

Issue: More than one sheet of paper feeds while printing

Solution: Clean the paper feed rollers using the MX300 operator panel

sikaku.gif Cleaning the Paper Feed Roller (Roller Cleaning) Clean the paper feed roller if paper is not fed properly. Cleaning the paper feed roller will wear the roller, so perform this only when necessary.

1. Make sure that the machine is turned on, and then remove any paper from the Rear Tray.

2. Clean the paper feed roller.

(1) Press the Menu button repeatedly until MAINTENANCE appears.

(2) Press the l_mark_s.jpg or r_mark_s.jpg button to select ROLLER CLEANING, then press the OK button.

The paper feed roller will rotate as it is cleaned.

3. Repeat step 2 twice.

4. Open the Paper Output Tray.

(1)Put your finger in the rounded indent beside the Paper Output Tray and open it gently.

(2) Open up and set the Output Tray Extension completely by pressing down the hollow on its front side.

5. Make sure that the paper feed roller stops rotating, then load three or more sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in portrait orientation in the Rear Tray.

Set the Paper Thickness Lever to the left.

6. Repeat step 2 three times.

The paper cleans the paper feed roller as it feeds through the machine.

If the problem is not resolved, wipe the paper feed roller (A) located on the right side inside the Rear Tray with a moistened cotton swab or the like. Rotate the roller (A) manually as you clean it. Do not touch the roller with your fingers; rotate it with the cotton swab.

Printer is saying it's out of paper and it isn't.

More than a paper sensor, usually the paper feed tire is dried out or coated with paper dust and stuff. A damp towel is the best, with just water as alcohol will further dry out the rubber. Take out the paper and look for the rubber tire that pulls the paper in and wipe it on all areas as you turn it, let it dry. Usually the printer thinks it's out of paper if none is fed in at the proper time. Take off the back cover and wipe those rollers too.

Paper feed not working properly

1. first check to see if there is any bits and pieces of paper in any place in the paper carriage -- look very carefully in front access and rear access
2. if this is not the problem, then disconnect printer from computer -- turn off printer, unplug power cord, unplug printer cable from printer
3. gain access to paper roller assembly, usually in rear
4. using lint free cloth, dampened with distilled water clean rollers -- read manual to determine direction of rotation (usually clockwise)
5. keep rotating rollers until all is wiped clean of paper dust
6. reassumble and try a test print as your printer manual directs

Card Stock is Not Fed from the Bypass Tray

Check the inside of the printer, ensure that there is no paper or foreign object stuck, sometimes they go undetected and they can affect normal printer feeding.
Try pulling out the paper tray and check the paper feeding mechanics underneath the printer.
Usually feeding problems are mechanic, if you cannot fix them in this simple way you will need to take printer apart and check feeding traction mechanics, this is usually a job that is better done at a repair shop.

Register tape

Assuming that you know where the paper gets feed in, I usually use this trick to start a new roll of paper.
First, tear off the end of the new roll so that there isn't any glue stuck on the paper.
Then, fold the tip of the paper like an arrow. (Fold one side to the middle and the other side to the middle so both sides meet in the middle. Looks like >
Then, place the paper into the slot where the paper feeds into in the back. (Paper will get fed under the printer assembly) and then hit the PAPER FEED/ADVANCE button at the same time. If the paper is in the correct slot, the paper should start feeding the paper all the way through.
Hope this helps.
Have a good day.

Paper will not feed

These are basically throw away printers. But you might try checking the paper path. There are small plastic "arms" that guide the paper as its picked up and goes throught he printer. Sometimes one of these may get stuck in a position that makes the printer think there is paper in the path somewhere.
