Typewriter I have a IBM Wheelwriter 3 that is going crazy. The lights at the right side start to flash and the wheel spins and types keys. Please help,

OK, so I left it unplugged over the weekend. Just plugged it in a few minutes ago. I am not real good with a soldering iron. Suppose things dont work out - where do I go from there. Is this something I should have replaced or am I better off purchasing a new typewriter ?

Thanks for all your help, it is greatly appreciated.

Oh, bad news. Indicates a confused main board. Only thing I can suggest is to unplug it from the power and let it sit over night, plug it pack in and try it again. Is it is still confused it needs to go into a repair center.

Good luck!

Did it work after unplugging it over night? Hope so!

If the problem pops up again, I would suspect that a capacitor on the main board might be going bad. The chances are that if there is a bad capacitor (or two) the problem will return and each time the “fix” will last less time.

If you are not real good with a soldering iron I wouldn’t attempt this if I were you. Pull off the cover. Many times you can see signs when capacitors go bad, “they bulge or leak”. If you don’t know what a capacitor looks like maybe you should reconsider your skills with a soldering iron.
