1) Press and keep [POWER] button on the unit for more than 10 seconds
to turn off the power of the unit.

2) Unplug power cord and wait for approx. 1 minute.

3) Plug power cord in.

4) The display shows [RECOVER] or [SELF CHECK] and it becomes under
recovery. Wait till the message on display disappears.

*When the unit does not recover after taking above procedures (1 to
4), it is needed to be checked and repaired.

I can't power on my dvd recorder dmr-e55

No power light look for a fuse--power light comes on and then goes out look for either a jammed mechanism or a power supply problem.

Panasonic DMR-E55 gives frequently "SELF CHECK". Sometimes it working ok but when i try to erase some recordings he goes to SELF CHECK. The problem came very slowly. Is this a problem with the power...

in short "yes". the switching regulator IC (component found on heatsink "cooks" because the heatsink is not big enough).
start with checking power supply capacitors for bulging tops or electronic leakage (preferably using ESR meter) & fitting bigger heatsink. If problem persists then replace switching regulator IC

Self checking

I have had a Panasonic DMR-E85 with this exact same problem you are describing. As I bought a Freeview Dual-tuner PVR I just bought a second-hand DMR-E55 as I liked the Panasonic interface. Two months down the line it is now exhibiting the exact same problems, except now as well as the continual self-check rebooting, it's also refusing to eject the disk. Booo. Time for me to buy a new DVD recorder again, and this time certainly not Panasonic... :(

Recorder keeps 'self checking' then taking dvd back to begining, although only on recordable dvd's, not rented. Are recorders worth repairing or are you better just buying another?

Will my non finalzied discs play on a panasonic ez 28 or ex 768

You will have no problem playing your non finalized discs on any of the Panasonic DMR range including the DMR EZ28 series. The DMR E55 can also easily be repaired if you can use a soldering iron and a little care. Please checkout my other postings for full repair details.

Stays in self check mode

If self check keeps going after 1 minute unplug machine and open top cover remove 4 screws that hold the recorder top cover remove disk reinsert screws and plug in see what happens.

Most of the time a small scratch or fingerprint on recorded disk cause these units to lock up

Dmr e85 will not start up

Hi Audi,
Try unplugging the hdd & then turn on the dvd recorder & wait for about 5 minutes.
Then unplug the dvd recorder & plug in the hdd & turn back on the dvd recorder to see if that fixes the problem.
