Follow this link, pick your router from the list and it will walk you through the needed steps. http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/routers/en_na/Belkin/index.jsp This section is just for Belkin routers. You may need to get the latest firmware for router if you don't already have it. To check your version open your router's interface page with your browser. Type 192.168.2.1 When it opens check your version. Then go here. This is for your router for updating the firmware. http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?lid=en&pid=F5D7230-4&aid=5947&scid=222 Update the firmware first if you don't have the latest version and then proceed to the other link .

How to identify security type on my belkin wireless router relative to nintendo wii security type options

For nintendo wii , you can use the security WEP or WPA ( PSK ).
These 2 security types will works with WII. If you put WEP,then 10 digit number will be the security code.
To change the security on the wireless network, you will need to open the set up page of the router.
Once you change the security on the router, it is recommended that you will change the wireless network name SSID. after changing the wireless settings , you will need to connect to the new wireless network on all your wireless devices like laptop , wii.

How do I use the internet without a wireless router.I have a regular internet box and the internet cable for the wii,but i cant seem to connect to the internet this way.

You will need to buy the wired internet connector for the Wii, called the Wii LAN Adapter. It plugs into one of the USB ports in the back of the Wii.

There is a good step-by-step from Nintendo's website here:

http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/connectingOnline.jsp?entryId=wdRouter

Good luck.

Hi. I have a Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO Router, which has been fine to connect my laptop to the internet (although seems slow sometimes). I just got a Wii, but this wont connect to the internet. The Wii...

Check for the wireless encryption settings associated with this. If you're trying to join a network with "Open" settings to a encrypted network it won't work very well.

Try switching your wireless router to channel 1. Also... have you setup all the security in your Wii to match your router?

Belkin F5D5231-4 - create a wireless access point

I have had good luck with the NetGear Rangemax WPN824. It has multiple antennas that are supposed to provide better range, and your kids will like the blue blinking lights.
http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/RangeMaxWirelessRoutersandGateways.aspx

Nintendo has a list of incompatible wireless routers:
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/onlineWirelessRouterIncompatible.jsp

and the Rangemax is not incompatible.

Wii can use 802.11B or G.
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/onlineWirelessRouterChoose.jsp

Since the Rangemax is both a wireless access point and a router (with 4 ethernet ports), you can just replace your existing router rather than plugging this router into your other one.
