Front wheels lock up when pull mower backwards on self propelled
troy bilt mower
Typically self-propelled mowers are propelled using the front wheels, which only turn forward. Pulling the mower back while the front wheels are turning will damage the drive gears. It's best to raise the front wheels slightly off the ground before pulling back.
Depending on the model, will be rust on the transmission drive pulley or belt adjustment to tight causing the belt/pulley to drag when pulling backwards, or other models will be the drive gears in the wheels gummed up, may just need a clean out by taking the wheels off, do one side at a time!
