You can make use of file recovery software for mac to recover deleted files from Trash. Using this software I have recovered large number of deleted files on Mac.
1. If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location.
2. "Time machine" is a built-in backup tool that works with your Mac and an external drive, As the problem you described, I read it. The files deleted in Trash bin could be a different problem which Time machine can't solve. you can read this article and learn more. I hope it will help.
3. If you don't have a Time Machine backup yet, then your best option would probably be uFlysoft Data Recovery for mac software
First things first: DO NOT take any more videos or audio with the recorder that you want to recover files from in case you may quite possibly ruin your chances of voice memo file recovery.
Then connect your recorder to another PC with a recovery program installed. Photo Recovery Software (also recover Voice memos, audio and video files) is right what you need to use if you are running Windows. If you are Mac OS X users, turn to Data Recovery for Mac.
But you should remember - the more you use your recorder, the less likely you may be able to recover the deleted files back! So STOP using the device ASAP. Good Luck!
Ctl click on downloads/Open in finder/ select the file/files you want to delete. Drag to the trash and drop. Then go to finder menu File/Empty trash. OR* select the one you want gone CMD click for mutiple items then press CMD+Delete. to empty trash press CMD+Shift+Delete.
have you tried switching to voice mode, then press and hold OK/MENU for a second or two to reach the main menu.
navigate to "format" then follow the prompts to re-format the device..?
the only thing left to try is to try and format the device and see if you can restore it back to factory default settings. You go to the menu and to the format option. This will permanently remove any recordings you have done and as I said restore the device back to factory settings. If that doesn't work then you will probably need to send it to Olympus for repair service.
