Kva = watts * power factor
for a resistive load, the power factor is 1

Kva = kilo-volt-amps

watts = volts x amps = va

Therefore, 5.8kva = 5800 watts

SOURCE: i have generac c 5000 series, that is 5000 watts .

philliprabay,

This is the formula The conversion of W to KVA is governed by the equation KVA=W/(1000*PF)

For example 1500W/(1000*0.83) = 1.8 kVA (assuming a power factor of 0.83)
Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

Can voltage on Powermate be adjusted?

yes
the adjustment is by the rpm setting on the governor spring
thee is a nut that you adjust the spring tension with and lower the rpms and watch the voltage gauge until you get the desired voltage
if the load is going to be constant but is well within the rated capacity( example 2kva of a 6.5 kva set) of the gen set then the variation when the load comes on will be less than 5 volts
however if the power required is close to the max capacity of the gen set ( example 4.5kva of a rated 5 kva set) , then turn the unit on and adjust the rpms up to the required voltage required
remember that an advertised kva is not the rated kva
rated kva is what the gen set will produce all day and is normally around 1kva less than advertised kva
so if you have a 6.5 kva gen set ,it will handle current peaks to 6.5 kva but will burn out if required to run long time at that load
if the gen set is 1000 watts then rated watts will be less ( 750-800) for long time use

What would make a McCulloch FG6000MK 11 HP generator start and idle fine but not able to rev-up and generate power.

Have to an ultrasinic cleaning of the carburetor and see if that will clean up the problem,

Bad on parts though most are NLA. but a carburetor from a Honda 11hp horizonal might work on this Chinese Honda cloned engine.

How many kva has a 3 phase 10.5kw generator?

About 10.5. One KVA just about equals one kilowatt, because one VA just about equals one watt. Not exactly, under all conditions, but it's pretty close for most purposes.

Need to wire my 5hp compressor to a 11hp 5500 watts generater

I'm not sure what you mean by "wire my 5hp compressor to a 11hp 5500 watts generator?" The compressor should have a three prong plug-in cord from the pressure regulator and the generator should have a three prong outlet to plug it into. Do not try to wire the compressor directly to the power generator (dynamo), the current must go through the circuit board then to the outlet to make sure your compressor motor is getting the proper current.

Can a 220volt floor sander be run off a generator

Hi Glen,

Welcome to fixya!

You would have to check the capacity of your generator. If it can handle 220 volts and the amp rating of the floor sander does not exceed the amp rating of the generator, you should be good to go.

Good luck.

When you accept this solution, please place a vote for me.

insure the wires from the magneto are not cracked or shaved as this would discharge to earth and the ht lead from the magneto to the plug is not perished as this would create leakage to earth
